This city of over a million people has made an effort to continue establishing its biotechnology industries.  Developing new ceramic industries and raw material supplies for the purposes of biotechnology is a priority for the government of Gangwon.  A good portion of this research is being conducted at the nearby Gangneung Science Industrial Complex.  The General Disaster Prevention Information Science Center will promote biotechnology as well as new material/disaster prevention research.
