Teaching Jobs at Public Schools in Gyeonggi-do (Province)
Gyeonggi Province, the area immediately surrounding Seoul has the highest demand for English education in all of Korea. This translates into a lot of ESL teaching jobs throughout the region. Teach Away was selected by the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education an official recruitment partner to recruit teachers for the renowned GEPIK program in Gyeonggi province.
What is GEPIK?
GEPIK stands for Gyeonggi English Program in Korea. It was established in 2003, to provide English education to the region. There are currently over 1,000 foreign ESL teachers working for GEPIK. The number of English teachers working in public schools across Gyeonggi province is expected to grow to 2,000 by the year 2010.
Who is Eligible?
Candidates must have:
-Citizenship from an English speaking country (Canada, USA, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, United Kingdom)
-Be a Native English Speaker
-Associates Degree
-2-Year College Diploma
-Completed 2 years of a Bachelors Degree
-Bachelors Degree from University or College in an English speaking country
What is the GEPIK INTERNSHIP Program?
In order to meet the demand for ESL teaching at Public Schools in Gyeonggi Province, the GEPIK program is now accepting candidates that do not have a university degree. Applicants with an associates degree, college degree, or 2 years of full time academic study within a bachelors program are eligible to teach in the Gyeonggi Province Internship Program.
Internship teachers must be willing to be placed anywhere within Gyeonggi Province and will receive 14 days of vacation.
**Candidates that posses a university degree or higher are eligible to teach within the GEPIK regular stream. These candidates are granted location preference (based on availability), more vacation days and higher salaries than Internship teachers.

GEPIK Benefits and Salary
English teachers in Gyeonggi Province are entitled to many benefits including the following:

Responsibilities of GEPIK English Teachers
Primarily, GEPIK teachers are required to conduct beginner to intermediate English classes at an assigned Gyeonggi Province school with a Korean co-teacher as a team. GEPIK English teachers are required to teach 22 classes (varying from 40 - 50 minutes) per week. There are other various extra curricular programs that teachers will run such as English Day Camp, English Speech contest, and English classes for fellow Korean teachers.
GEPIK Working Hours
The period of employment for English teaching jobs is one-year, starting from the first day of employment in Korea. Teachers will generally work 8 hours per day including lunch, for 5 days a week from Monday to Friday and shall not work on Saturdays, Sundays or National Holidays. Teachers will have 22 teaching hours per week.

Location preference for English teaching jobs are granted whenever possible, but placements are limited to availability. The more flexibility an applicant has with regards to application, the better chance they have of securing a job.
