Job Description
BASIS International School Guangzhou is seeking qualified candidates for an AP European History teacher for the 2020-21 school year!
BASIS International teachers are part of one of the most collaborative and professional teaching communities. Primary Job Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Teach higher level content than grade standard in an interactive learning environment to deliver exceptional results for all students
- Tutor students in content-specific knowledge and skills to heighten the trajectory of their academic and career success
- Implementation of BASIS Curriculum by designing effective and creative lessons and assessments to display your passion for the subject and educate students at an internationally competitive level
- Collaborate with other BASIS International teachers to form a community of smart, talented and interesting people who are passionate about their work and readily willing to work in a professional, academic environment
- Management of student behavior to foster academic achievement, personal responsibility, intellect and individuality in all students

Job Requirements
- A Bachelor's degree with a major (or 24+ credit hours) in History or related field, Advanced degree preferred
- Must possess the required credentials to teach in your home country or state which may include a Bachelor's degree and documentation of passage of a state authorized subject test in the teaching
- Must have a minimum of 2 full years of teaching experience
- Subject matter postgraduate work (Master's or Ph.D.) is preferred or a combination of subject matter undergraduate degree with a Master’s in Education
- Together with a high level of educational attainment, a successful applicant will demonstrate strong communication skills in teaching ideas, texts, and concepts with precision and confidence
- Critically, an applicant must possess a high GPA in his/her major, excellent recommendations, experience working with children, not necessarily in the classroom, and be open to new ideas in teaching

The second BASIS International School in China, BASIS International School Guangzhou, opened in August 2017. Almost 400 students in grades Kindergarten - Grade 9 attended the first year, and the school has grown to its capacity of approximately 1,200 students in grades Pre-K - 12. It is also the first BASIS International School to offer a weekday boarding program. The school has enjoyed many academic and artistic successes, including a first place finish by the Economics team in the 2019 global round of the National Economics Challenge, as well as upper school drama students receiving the first ever National Directors Award for producing dramatic work that has never been seen before at a high school level in China.
The school celebrated its first graduating class in 2021, with graduates receiving acceptances to many top universities around the world, including University of Oxford, Cornell University, Imperial College London, University of Toronto, and many others.
Set in a suburb of Guangzhou, the campus offers a friendly atmosphere just outside one of China's largest cities, with easy access to numerous restaurants, shopping complexes, as well as historic sites in the greater Guangzhou area. About BASIS Bilingual School Guangzhou
Opening in the fall of 2026, BASIS Bilingual School Guangzhou will be the second BASIS school in the city and the first bilingual campus. The school will offer kindergarten, primary, middle, and high school programs for students with mainland Chinese residency, as well as for those with partly foreign passports or from Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan. Once complete, the campus will have the capacity to serve 1,900 students.
BASIS Bilingual School Guangzhou is located on the north side of Xin’gang East Road in Pazhou, Haizhu District, the core area of Guangzhou’s Artificial Intelligence and Digital Economy Pilot Zone. This prime location positions the school within one of the city’s most forward-looking and dynamic districts.
The campus covers 24,000 square meters, with a total construction area of approximately 74,000 square meters and a planned investment of 1.2 billion RMB. The school is equipped with a lecture hall, library, black box theater, swimming pool, observatory, cafeteria, gymnasiums, laboratories, and multifunctional classrooms for arts, music, and innovation, along with other high-standard teaching facilities that reflect the quality and ambition of BASIS International & Bilingual Schools.

BASIS International School Guangzhou is set in the Science City suburb outside of Guangzhou with lots of green spaces, lush rolling hills, and numerous paths to walk, jog, or cycle. Guangzhou is a diverse city with several foreign consulates (including a U.S. Consulate), in the city center (about a 45 minute car ride away from the school). This cultural diversity means you'll find good restaurants from around the world, most delivering meals to your door.
In addition, several modern malls with entertainment, dining, and movie theaters around the city, Chimelong's Safari Park, Paradise Park and Circus will keep your weekends busy. Guangzhou and its neighbor Dongguan are considered the manufacturing capital of China, so there is a large wholesale market area in the city where you can find lots of bargains, if you're in the mood to hunt. But when you desire a change of scenery, a bullet train can have you in Hong Kong in about an hour.
