For 14 years, Richmond School District, in Metro Vancouver has been providing professional support to Canadian teachers working in public schools in Shenzhen, China. We will continue to provide support for this highly successful program that demonstrates a Canadian approach in K to 9.
At the moment, we are searching for an additional two elementary level teachers to join the program as soon as possible.
This program represents a terrific opportunity for teachers to enjoy a one year or longer teaching experience in China. Upon a successful experience, all teachers will be assured of the option to join the Teacher Teaching on Call (TTOC) list for Richmond School District in Vancouver upon their return to Canada.
Compensation for this program is one of the best in China as it includes a salary and benefits package that is comparable to teachers working in Canada. These contracts also include free accommodation, a settlement allowance, medical benefits, airfare and a contribution to mid-year travel.
While the majority of the instruction delivered is focused on teaching English as a Foreign Language, our teachers have the opportunity to teach other subject areas (non-core unless there is Mandarin facility) from time to time, contingent on skill set. All the teaching positions are within Chinese public schools and follow the Chinese curriculum. Our purpose in Shenzhen is to provide excellent English instruction as well as opportunities for Chinese school teachers, administrators and parents to observe our Canadian teaching methodologies.
To date, the program has proven to be interesting and rewarding for the Chinese students, professional staff and parents from the schools, as well as, virtually all of the more than 90 Canadian teacher participants.
All applicants need to be certified Canadian teachers
The International Programs Department, a revenue generating entity within the British Columbia Richmond School District, runs a variety of programs both on and off shore. These programs include: full time international students in our Richmond schools, short term visiting international students, professional learning programs for Chinese teachers and administrators, and supporting schools abroad with the provision of certified teachers and professional support.
