Essential Duties:

Teach introductory chemistry lectures and labs

Teach in person

Engage in various department, school, and college administrative duties.

Maintain reasonable office hours.

Attend department, school, and college meetings.

Serve on college committees as assigned.

Keep accurate records.

Evaluate student performance.

Participate in on-going curriculum development.

Participate in faculty development.

Other duties as requested by department, school, or administration.

Physical Demands:

Employee must be able to stand, walk, and sit for long periods of time, speak, hear, use hands and fingers to handle materials and use computer, feel, and reach with hands and arms.  Use of specialized lab equipment with use of PPE (personal protective equipment) is required.  Occasional lifting/moving of up to 25 pounds may be required.

Qualifications:

Master’s degree in Chemistry or Ph.D. in Chemistry or related field (candidates in the final stages of writing/defending their dissertations may be considered.)  Preference will be given to candidates who have teaching experience in introductory courses.  Finalists will be required to deliver a short mock lecture via Zoom or other video over-internet system.  Teaching abilities and fluency in English will be assessed during a demonstration lecture.

This is an adjunct position for the Fall semester of 2018 term. Teaching responsibilities will be for introductory chemistry lectures and labs. Teaching load will be a total of 9 contact hours per week. Duties also include lab preparation and clean up, running a safe laboratory experience, and participation in departmental activities. A minimum of five office hours must be held per week. The Chemistry Instructor teaches one lecture section of CHEM 1005 and two laboratory sections of CHEM 1006, and participates in various departmental duties as needed and assigned.
