This position functions of the Dean of Students to provide assistance to the Principal and Assistant Principal in all assigned activities at the school site with primary responsibility in the areas of discipline and attendance. This position is directly responsible to the school principal and/or designee and will also lead an activity or club; typically Student Council.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Directly responsible for coordinating and enforcing all campus-wide discipline and attendance procedures.Organization of and scheduling of detention periods for students on a Monday to Friday schedule
- Insurance of the attendance of all assigned detentions
- Follow-up with discipline decisions made
- Consistent and even policy enforcement
- Adhesion to the Student Handbook
- Uniform policy enforcement, campus-wide
- including all class times, study hall, PE, and free time, etc.
- Consistent review of log entries with timely follow-up.Electronic follow-up
- written responses, edits and title changes to electronic log entry submissions
- Teacher follow-up
- Meetings, clarifications, communication on details etc
- Student follow-up
- Verbal warnings, referrals, detentions etc
- Maintain the current Student Handbook and other relevant handbooks and training guides connected with discipline and/or attendance. A revision should be made each semester/year as need be
- A semester-by-semester review is mandatory
- Analyze and interpret daily/weekly/monthly school-level discipline and attendance data & reports.Presentation reports at weekly Administrative Team Meetings
- Discussion and planning of effective measures against undesired report changes
- Implement strategies to improve campus discipline & attendance, including but not limited to:
- Progressive discipline
- Restorative practices
- Anti-bullying practices
- Positive relationship practices
- Assist the administrative team in establishing a school climate which promotes equal opportunities for all students, good conduct, and positive attitudes and values, and accept responsibility for the attendance, conduct, health, and safety of students
- Oversee general health, stability and progress of Campus Life and Dormitory Life
- Cooperative liaising with Student Council, the Director of Campus Life and Dormitory Staff
- Foster ideas that create a positive opportunities for Campus Life
- Support effective on-campus living discipline policies
- Provide effective teacher/staff communication; collaborate and resolve conflicts with others
- Mediator for students and teachers
- Assist the administrative team in supervising the maintenance and operation of the building, grounds, and property assigned to the building
- Directly supervise and maintain an effective In-School Suspension Program
