Curriculum Development, Teaching and Learning

  • Teach a timetable as determined by the Principal and Head of School
  • Make use of professional knowledge, understanding and training to build a stimulating, creative and supportive learning environment in the Design Thinking Lab
  • Design and develop high quality, innovative design challenges and projects across the age range that develop students’ creative confidence; with an appropriate and effective assessment regime that supports learning and secures positive student outcomes
  • Ensure that teachers, learning facilitators and students engage in hands-on design challenges that focus on developing empathy, promoting a bias toward action, encouraging, ‘ideation’, developing metacognitive awareness and fostering active problem-solving

Professional Leadership

  • Discuss/consult/report to Principals or the Deputy Principal in matters of strategic planning, development needs and student outcomes through SAT and beyond
  • Build relationships and liaise with Design Thinking teachers across HD Shanghai and other HD schools to foster innovation, share practice on writing creative projects and to secure support for using a range of media and digital fabrication tools and software
  • Embed the Design Thinking process in working with students and provide professional development opportunities for colleagues as a springboard to broadening and improvingpedagogy, and encouraging appropriate curriculum integration across the school
  • Support the induction of new teachers in developing their understanding of the Design Thinking process in an ESL context, and reflecting on transferable skills and opportunities for integration across subjects
  • Set a good example as reflective learner.Continue learning and developing teaching practice through Design Thinking as a ‘pioneering’ teacher; continuously creating an academic atmosphere of learning and exploration
  • Contribution to the wider life of the school life engaging in whole-school and community events and modelling school values in line with the School Mission ‘Education Makes Character’.

Administrative Functions

  • Supervise and manage the subject team including efficient budget management, time allocation and resource purchasing
  • Lead the planning of assessment criteria, moderation of projects, recording of assessment showcasing of outcomes; and communication between school and home in respect of planning and assessment
  • Work with colleagues in school, and across the HD Group to quality assure Design Thinking lessons to promote creativity and consistency of ethos, delivery and assessment
