Early Childhood Reggio Emilia Teacher for Inquiry-Based Nature School
Are you an adventurous, fun, and creative educator? We’d love to meet you!
Manglares Discovery School is a private microschool in its seventh year, nestled in a secluded jungle setting. Serving children ages 3 to 13 from the vibrant beachside community of Playa Venao, our campus offers a rich environment for inquiry-based learning. With a waterfall on-site and frequent visits from three species of monkeys, diverse birds, and other wildlife, nature is an integral part of our students’ experience. The local culture adds further depth to our learning explorations.
What started as a single early education classroom has grown steadily, adding 1–2 grades per year. We now serve students from Pre-K through Grade 7 and are seeking an early years teacher to help strengthen our foundation.
Our team of educators brings diverse perspectives and a passion for working with children. We are looking for candidates who:
If you believe in nurturing the whole child, love adventure, enjoy nature, and are excited about contributing to a growing school in a tropical setting, this opportunity could be a perfect fit!
* Location: Playa Venao, Panama—known for its world-class surfing and laid-back lifestyle. This role requires relocation to a rural area. Candidates should be open to adjusting to a new culture and embracing a slower-paced, nature-filled lifestyle.
Class Size: 8–15 students
Focus: Holistic child development—academic, social, and emotional well-being
Join us in shaping a unique learning experience where education meets exploration!
Negotiable for the right candidate.
Qualifications:
Teaching License: A valid teaching license for the appropriate age group (typically ages 3-12) is essential.
Dispositions:
Cañas Jungle Adventure, Cañas, District of Tonosí, Cañas, PA
Our Philosophy
We believe that every child wants to and can learn.
When children find meaning in learning, they are motivated and challenged, and take ownership of their learning.
We value every child as an individual. Our children have diverse learning needs and bring with them a wide range of experiences, beliefs, knowledge, and skills. We adapt our teaching pace, approaches, and assessment practices to be effective and appropriate for where the child is in development.
We believe that learning takes place in caring and safe environments. We cultivate positive teacher-student and peer relationships so that there is a culture of care and mutual respect in our classrooms, where children learn to appreciate diversity. They are encouraged to take risks, learn from their mistakes and one another, and be confident in expressing their views.
Learning takes place individually and collaboratively, as children construct and co-construct meaning from knowledge and experiences. We guide learners to activate prior knowledge and assimilate and accommodate new knowledge through exploration and interaction with others. This allows them to build a strong foundation of knowledge by connecting new ideas and experiences with what they already know, thus facilitating the understanding of concepts and the application of what they have learned to different contexts.
We believe in developing thinking skills and dispositions in our learners. To do this, we guide them to construct, interpret, and evaluate knowledge from different perspectives. We help learners understand that by thinking about their thinking, they can monitor, assess, and improve their learning.
Assessment is integral to the learning process and helps children become self-directed learners. As such, we design assessments with clarity of purpose, to provide our learners and us with feedback to address learning gaps and improve teaching practices.
