Tasks, Activities, Expectations with relation to:

Administration:

Areas of Accountability:

  • To assist the Principal in planning, managing, and monitoring the school’s academic delivery and instructional program.
  • Manage and schedule daily academic staff absences. Coordinate with the KG VP to make sure that there are no gaps.
  • Conduct daily walkthroughs of ES classrooms as scheduled every week. Record the observations on RenWeb and provide feedback to teachers.
  • To work with the ES Principal, HS Administrators, Academic Coordinator & Social workers with harmony, mutual respect and professionalism.
  • Attend meetings:
    • Weekly management meeting
    • Occasional special meetings with the management on Saturdays should there be a need.
    • Administrator meetings
    • Student/parent meetings
  • To complete updates of student/ parent and teacher manuals in March of every year for the following academic year.
  • Leading committees: MSA accreditation, School clubs and other school committees

Areas of Responsibility:

  • To ensure that the policies and procedures for opening day are in place 2 weeks prior to the beginning of the new academic year (August/ September).
  • To support the Principal in conducting formal teacher evaluations using Charlotte Danielson framework:
    • Probationary review for new staff to be completed by October 10th of each year. And then a second review which needs to be done at the end of the year (due by March 30th).
    • Returning teachers have one formal evaluation every year: to be completed by March 30th    
  • To support the principal in ensuring that accreditation objectives of CBS are met.
  • Assist the Principal in providing in-servicing for staff. All Professional Development (in school or outside) must be implemented in school to benefit student learning. Daily walk-throughs are also important to support teachers with improving instructional delivery.

Academic:

Areas of Accountability:

  • Work closely with the Curriculum team (Principal, Academic Coordinator, KG VP and Social worker) to coordinate, monitor and improve student performance ensuring compliance with the academic and intervention program.
  • The Maths and literacy improvement plan is to be implemented for elementary. The implementation is to be carried out as per the 5 year plan.
  • To ensure on a periodic basis that all curriculum plans and assessments of teachers are completed and uploaded to RenWeb on the specified dates. Quarterly reports to the management are prepared based on the marks entered. Academic progress and decisions on improving student learning are made based on the assessment entries. Therefore, it is important to ensure efficacy and timely mark entry.
  • Assessment dates are to be set by May of the current year for the following year. The same dates could be followed year after year with small adjustments. E.g. Diagnostic, Formative, Summative and MAPS.
  • Ensure that the teachers use the exemplars lesson plans available on RenWeb or submit amended lesson plans to the Vice-Principal and Academic Coordinator for approval latest by Wednesday of the current week. Lesson plans of Grade 2 to grade 5 are to be reviewed by the Vice-Principal.
  • To work with the curriculum team (Academic Coordinator and Principal) and conduct quarterly curriculum reviews in October, December March and May.
  • Assist the ESL and Arabic coordinator and use diagnostic assessments to manage student enrolment into the intervention programs, ensuring all struggling students enter the program.
  • Ensure that when staff attend outside school PD sessions, they return and share what they have acquired during PD with all remaining staff through in-service training sessions and this information must be posted on RenWeb- the idea is to promote knowledge sharing which is in the end meant to benefit the students of CBS.
  • Should a situation arise where a teacher is needed, the elementary Vice-Principal should for a short period handle a teaching role in the elementary department.

Areas of Responsibility:

  • To make sure that teachers create long range and unit plans by May of the current year for the following academic year and that this information is uploaded on the program (curriculum Trak).
  • To ensure that the curriculum is being covered according to the long range, unit and lesson plans created. This involves regular class room visits to support and evaluate delivery by each teacher.
  • To ensure optimal implementation of existing academic programs/ resources and research/ recommend additional programs that will benefit student learning. New programs must meet budgetary and curriculum appropriateness standards.

Department Goals:

  • To foster a positive relationship and attitude between all staff, management, school owners and the community.
  • Conduct professional development activities, mentoring staff and reinforcing the school vision to ensure retention of staff.
  • Ensure that staff productivity is in line with the agreed academic goals for the year.
  • Assist in implementing plans to achieve the modified Ontario curriculum goals of each grade level.
  • Be actively involved in the Professional Learning Teams.

Individual Goals:

  • Incorporate new technology and learning programs to enhance the curriculum and the learning process.
  • Support Principal with the smooth transition of students from elementary to high school.
  • To develop harmonious and positive work environment within the school and with the management.

Reports:

  • Detailed weekly report on the various aspects of the JD including relevant weekly incidences and achievements to senior management and Principal.
  • Report on probationary and yearly evaluations of teachers to the Principal and Operations Manager.

Canadian Bilingual School opened its doors to students in the year 2007. It is part of the TMC Education Management company which operates 6 schools. The first educational institution under the group was Creative Children International School, a special needs school located in Hawally, which commenced in 2003. Canadian Bilingual School came into being in 2007. As part of the company’s ongoing expansion, an additional 4 schools joined the group in 2019 - Pakistan International School, Indian Central School, Aspire Indian International School and the last one which is still in its inception stage.

Canadian Bilingual School had about 100 students when it first started and offered a JK through Grade 5 program. In 2014, CBS had its first graduating class of grade 12 students. Our focus was on providing an excellent environment to learn English. We have stayed focused on this goal during the last 14 years. Our student population steadily grew thanks to the strong program being delivered. While we used the Ontario curriculum which has a properly laid out balanced Literacy program to enhance student English skills, we also developed strength in all other subject areas, including Maths, Science, Computer Science, Social Studies, Arabic, Kuwait Social Studies and Islamic Studies. Students are expected to work towards goals and teachers spend time providing students with additional support to help them achieve their learning goals.

We have used RenWeb for the last 6 years to automate a lot of the school information. Last year we also adopted the use of the student learning platform called the Learning Management System which makes posting and grading of student work and assessments convenient.

For the last 7 years, CBS has gone through the MSA (Middle States Association) accreditation process. We will be continuing the re-accreditation process. This has systematically helped CBS work against benchmarks and standards so that there is a steady improvement in the achievement levels of students. Besides this, we have adopted MAP, an international standardized assessment which has helped us improve our English and Maths levels steadily.
