When you teach English in China, you will be interacting with the current and future leaders of the country. It is a great job opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of how Chinese people see the outside world. Our teachers prepare and deliver lessons to students ranging from 3 to 18 years old, though not in the same class, of course, and keep our group sizes small to a maximum of 10 for kindergarteners and 12 for primary students and above. We use a range of techniques in class and incorporate a huge amount of technology alongside more traditional methods to make our classes as engaging as possible. With us, you’ll be provided the resources to become the best teacher you can be. Our new and colourful classrooms offer state-of-the-art technology including Internet-connected computers, interactive whiteboards, and iPads. We also offer a world-class teacher development program with certification courses exclusively for our teachers to help them move into more senior positions within EF. Teachers can expect to teach up to 20 hours per week during off-peak months, and up to 26 hours during the peak seasons (Jan-Feb, July-Aug). Teachers are also responsible for the completion of all administration duties associated with their classes. These include lesson planning, parent teacher meetings, marking homework and assessments and attending professional development workshops. As part of a team, teachers may also be given additional responsibilities which relate to the mentoring of other teachers within the school. In total, a working week is 40 hours.

Capital of Jiangsu province, Nanjing is China’s education hub, hosting more universities and students than anywhere else in the country.

With a population of over 8 million, the city is packed with history having twice served as the capital of China, but still offers all the modern comfort expected from an international city. It is entirely possible to find thousand-year-old palaces, traditional Nanjing duck restaurants, street food vendors and super-modern, high-rise shopping malls all on the same street.

Nanjing is also one of China’s major transportation hubs, with a bullet train able to take you to Shanghai (1.5 hours), Suzhou (1 hour), or even Beijing (4 hours), and a major international airport.

Our company Education First stands as a proud and well-established member of the global EF community. Our first school in Nanjing opened in 2002 and we have been growing rapidly ever since.

We now have 6 centers in the city with more than 40 full time native English teachers and over 3,000 students studying with us. A further 2 schools are planned to open later this year, and school’s 9 and 10 in 2019.

We teach a variety of classes to students aged from 3-18. Our group size per class is kept small – 10 or 12 depending on age - to give our students the best experience possible, and we use a variety of different approaches to make sure all learner styles are accounted for in our lessons.

Our teachers benefit from a huge amount of ongoing professional support and development from both their mentors in school and from the city-wide trainer team. We hold a new teacher onboarding program that includes an in-depth explanation of the courses, curriculum, resources and methodology. To hone teaching skills further, we offer continuous professional development weekly so our team can proudly say they are the best English teachers in the city.
