  • Experience teaching ESL at the elementary level preferred
  • Demonstrated knowledge of best practice in guided reading instruction
  • Strong understanding of MTSS and ability to design, implement and monitor interventions
  • Ability to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all students
  • Demonstrated application of the PLC framework
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to speak 2nd language in Chinese or Arabic preferred
  • Provide ESL services in an intensive program
  • Extensive knowledge of second language acquisition, research, and best teaching practices as applied to ELLs’ linguistic and academic development
  • Administer state required testing to ELLs (ELPA21, Iowa Assessments)
  • Provide academic and English support to ELLs as needed
  • Plan for and work with individuals or small groups of ELLs
  • Collaborate with ELLs’ classroom teachers, ELL teachers, and Cultural Liaisons on a regular basis to meet the needs of ELLs
  • Build relationships with culturally diverse students and their families to ensure that each student reaches his/her full potential
  • Attend monthly ESL meetings and training opportunities at the district and state level
  • A successful candidate must possess strong interpersonal skills with a proven record of building rapport with culturally diverse students to ensure each child reaches his/her full potential
  • Good attendance and punctuality are a must to ensure that the duties and responsibilities of the job are performed successfully
  • Must be willing to support and implement Ames Schools multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS) for both behavior and academics
