Job Description:

Appointment Details

The Head of the EAL Department at HD Shanghai School will work closely with the Senior Leadership Team in providing a high quality of EAL Teaching & Learning at the School.

We are seeking an individual who can articulate and develop the vision and ethos of HD Shanghai, helping to inspire and empower staff, students and parents within the whole community of the School.

Role and Responsibilities

Teaching and Learning

To foster a passion for the teaching of EAL an excellent work ethic, and a culture of high expectations in which both the staff and the students are able to fulfil their potential
To oversee curriculum development, lesson planning and schemes of work for the EAL Department
To monitor and evaluate curriculum provision, liaising with other Heads of Department, where appropriate, to implement action plans
To ensure a personalised approach to learning is adopted and a variety of learning models and groupings are used by EAL teachers
To liaise with the Learning Support Department regarding the development and collation of Individual Education Plans
To have a thorough understanding of the purpose and aims of the HD Shanghai’s overall curriculum, and ensure this is communicated effectively
To ensure that EAL Teaching & Learning are appropriately aligned with the School’s value added measures
To develop the best combination of British and Chinese approaches to deliver a personalised bi-lingual curriculum
To ensure that technology is used effectively to support learning
To ensure a consistent and high quality approach to assessment and reporting of EAL throughout the School
To create and update curriculum handbooks and policy documents
To participate fully in the co-curricular and school activity programme

Communication and Co-operation

To develop a collaborative and supportive culture amongst colleagues in the EAL Department in which information, ideas and resources are easily shared
To ensure that EAL classrooms are an attractive orderly place where equipment and resources are well managed
To identify opportunities for staff CPD and to ensure that a strong professional development framework is in place
To assist the Senior Leadership Team in developing the strategic vision for the School
To participate in leadership, department and parent meetings
To support the School’s image and profile in the community
To attend meetings and undertake duties as reasonably requested by the Head
