Staff Support
- Collaborate with and assist teachers to maintain high standards in planning, classroom delivery and the use of assessment.
- Manage the reading support specialists, and schedule the workflow for all reading and support specialists teaching assistants.
- Work with HOD’s and Principals on identifying students who are eligible and in need of additional reading support.
- Work with the Principals and Student Support Specialists on identifying the appropriate skills focuses and differentiation methods used in the lesson plans for the reading support students.
- Work with the Principals on allocating time for the reading support students to receive extra support after school.
- Provide ongoing training for all tools associated with Literacy and conduct regular training sessions on all components of a balanced literacy model; working on strategies and methodologies with the Homeroom and ELA teachers.
- Model and team teach literacy lessons for and with ELA teachers as part of the ongoing support system for enhancing and refining teaching strategies and methodologies.
- Observe ELA teachers in their teaching of literacy and provide ongoing, actionable feedback for enhancing and refining teaching methodologies.
- Ensure alignment of goals and student learning outcomes between ELA teachers and Student Support Specialists
Student Support
- Regularly update all students' reading levels.
- Ensure students receiving reading support demonstrate growth and assist students to reach their grade appropriate reading level
- Liaise with admissions on admissions testing, including reviewing and scoring the literacy components of admissions tests.
Curricular Support
- Ensure consistently high quality curriculum delivery and clear learning outcomes for students
- Create school wide literacy plan
- Analyze reading support students’ MAP results, using their ILPs (Individual Learning Plans) to ensure the appropriate reading strategies are applied.
- To maintain a regular system of monitoring, assessment, record-keeping and reporting of student’s progress in all facets of literacy learning
- To incorporate the use of media and technology in literacy
- Alignment between (and structuring the utilization of) library resources, leveled readers for guided reading, classroom libraries and the EL literature,
- Closely monitoring reading targets and introducing writing initiatives
Resource Support
- Keep records, in coordination with the COO, of all reading resources, of when and how resources are being utilized by ELA teachers and Student Support Specialists
- Work with principals and teachers on ordering resources
