Responsibilities
- Provides counseling services for students, and advisement to parents, teachers, staff, and outside agencies. Counseling services may include, but are not restricted to, individual counseling, group counseling, classroom presentations and crisis intervention. Counseling services may include a review of psychological evaluations and standardized test scores.
- Serves as a member of the Child Study Team (CST) to support the referral process to include pre-referral screening and conferences, pupil progression, school level articulation. Assists with the coordination of student placement, student records, and student recognition programs.
- Plans, implements, and delivers the school’s adopted guidance curriculum, through the development implementation and coordination of school-wide programs (character development, cooperation and conflict resolution skills, etc.) and grade specific classroom presentations, requiring articulation with the administration and classroom teachers.
- Consults with teachers, teams, administrators, families and/or students regarding the progress of students.
- Provides special programs for students appropriate to their developmental needs; parent education programs; and guidance-oriented staff development activities.
- Conducts individual or group counseling with students in areas of need.
- Conducts skill-building groups in student self-improvement (leadership, study skills, test-taking skills, conflict resolution, peer relations skills, self-esteem, etc.).
- Coordinates with all staff and administration to provide supportive instructional classroom activities that relate to student educational and personal needs.
- Coordinates, supervises, and reports the findings of standardized MAP group testing.
- Plan and implement a student counseling program that outlines procedures for:Teachers to follow when recommending students for counseling;The counseling process;The reporting of results to parents, teachers, and administrators.
- Administer admission assessments to potential students and collaborate with the Registration Dept. in the up-to-date maintenance of permanent student records.
- Performs other tasks, duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Principal or Superintendent.
