Required Qualifications:
- Passion for serving God in the context of education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field
- Valid Teaching Certificate
- Valid Special Education Certification/Endorsement
- (Life experience related to content and/or teaching may substitute for a Teacher Certificate in some situations.)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Two or more years of successful teaching experience
- Prior experience in an international school
- Master’s Degree in Education or related field
- Understanding of Common Core Standards
- Experience with English Language Learners (ELL)
- Diagnostician credentials or other testing credentials
- Knowledge or willingness to learn of US Federal law around ADA, FAPE and Civil Rights of persons with disabilities
Role Specific Responsibilities:
- Assess students’ skills to determine their needs and to develop teaching plans
- Adapt lessons to meet the needs of students
- Develop Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for each student with needs
- Plan, organize, and assign activities that are specific to each student’s abilities
- Teach and mentor students as a class, in small groups, and one-on-one
- Implement IEPs, assess students’ performance, and track their progress
- Update IEPs throughout the school year to reflect students’ progress and goals
- Discuss student’s progress with parents, teachers, and administrators
- Mentor para-professionals who work with students with disabilities
- Prepare and help students transition from grade to grade and after graduation
- Collaborate on training for teachers in professional development settings
