Job Description

Job Purpose

Oversee all aspects of student welfare, discipline, and personal development. This role ensures that the pastoral system supports students’ emotional and social needs, creating a safe, inclusive, and nurturing school environment. Work closely with teachers, parents, and external agencies to implement policies and practices that promote student well-being, behavior management, and personal growth.

Main Duties

  • Lead the development and implementation of pastoral care policies to support students’ emotional, social, and personal development.
  • Foster a positive school culture that promotes respect, inclusivity, and well-being, ensuring all students feel safe and supported.
  • Oversee and monitor the student behavior management system, ensuring disciplinary actions are fair, consistent, and aligned with the school’s values.
  • Implement and monitor safeguarding policies, ensuring compliance with UAE child protection regulations and Cambridge standards.
  • Ensure students are well-supported and know where to seek help, especially during stressful periods like exams.
  • Work closely with the Pastoral Team, including counselors and social workers, to monitor student welfare and provide timely interventions.
  • Collaborate with the SENDCO to support students with additional needs, ensuring their emotional development.
  • Develop and implement attendance policies, working with families to improve attendance and punctuality.
  • Establish clear protocols for crisis intervention, ensuring effective responses to student safety concerns.
  • Promote awareness of mental health and well-being through initiatives like stress management workshops and peer mentoring programs.


Specific Duties

  • Develop programs that promote leadership, resilience, and social responsibility, such as student councils, community service, and extracurricular activities.
  • Encourage student participation in initiatives that enhance personal growth and foster a sense of belonging.
  • Oversee the development of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for students with additional needs, ensuring comprehensive support systems are in place.
  • Serve as the main contact for parents on welfare and disciplinary matters, maintaining open and effective communication.
  • Organize regular parent meetings and workshops on well-being, personal development, and discipline.
  • Collaborate with local organizations and external agencies to enhance support services for students and their families.
  • Lead initiatives aligned with the school’s strategic goals, such as mental health awareness campaigns, anti-bullying programs, and peer mentoring.
  • Organize school-wide events focused on student welfare, such as Well-Being Days, charity drives, and community outreach activities.
  • Seek opportunities to enrich the learning environment through well-planned activities aligned with Cambridge standards.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of pastoral care initiatives, ensuring continuous improvement and alignment with the school’s values.
  • Maintain accurate records of pastoral interventions, safeguarding cases, and attendance.

Additional School Requirements:

·       Bachelor's degree in education, Psychology, Counselling, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).

·       Professional teaching qualification (PGCE, B.Ed., or equivalent)

. Certified training in child protection and safeguarding (e.g., Designated Safeguarding Lead certification)

·       5+ years of experience in education, with at least 3 years in a pastoral or student welfare leadership role.

. Experience working in an international school setting and familiarity with Cambridge standards is a plus.
