NIS seeks to appoint an experienced, talented and inspiring Learning Support teacher to join our Student Services Department in the Primary School. The Grade placement is not yet decided but this will be supporting a team of two grade levels (ELC-1, 2-3 or 4-5).

As a community school, NIS strives for inclusivity and serves a diverse group of students with varied talents, hopes and dreams. The student services department consists of staff responsible for the areas of physical health, counseling, special needs and EAL. Together, the team is focused on working in collaboration with classroom teachers, administrators and parents to remove any barriers which might otherwise inhibit learners from accessing our mission. Based in the ‘iSpace’, a collaborative flexi-space for students and staff, the student services team work across the school to provide mission access to learners each and every day.

The successful candidate will be an experienced and qualified special needs practitioner. Ideally the candidate will be able to conduct appropriate assessments, plan for and provide specialized interventions, and work across the grade level team to ensure that the needs of students with barriers to learning are met. While a special educational needs background is required, our ‘team around the child’ approach means that the successful candidate will also be responsible for ensuring the support of EAL within the assigned grade level team.

The team within each grade (2 classes) consists of two homeroom teachers and one intern/assistant teacher per grade. The intern/assistant is usually a fully qualified but inexperienced educator. There can be between 30-48 students across each Grade (15-24 per class). The role of the student services teacher is to work across and with this team to ensure that the needs of identified students are planned for and consistently met.
