Overall Description:

  • To plan, organise and implement an appropriate instructional programme in a learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential;
  • To fulfill professional responsibilities assigned by the Leadership Team headed by the Principal and Heads in a timely and professional manner.  

 

Major Responsibilities:

  • Planning, Teaching, Assessment and Reporting
  • Develop and implement curriculum documentation and lesson planning according to school policy
  • Plan and use variety of teaching strategies to support the engagement of all learners in class
  • Be aware of the EAL/SEN learning needs and provides learning opportunities for diverse learners
  • Respect the values, gender and cultural differences of students and creates a classroom culture that develops student intellectual capacity, emotional and personal development
  • Develop teacher grade books, including assignments and correct students’ homework in an organized, professional manner and make sure accurate records of each student are kept
  • Develop school mid/end-semester assessment following school curriculum and policies  
  • Conduct tests or exams, marking and reporting in a timely and professional manner
  • Use variety of assessment methods addressing individualized students’ learning needs; keep complete and updated academic records e.g. progress records on a weekly basis and progress reports every semester
  • Develop special activities or programs to meet individualized/differentiated student needs
  • Organize and prepare learning materials or teaching aids at a professional level

 

Other responsibilities

  • Supervise students when they are involved in school activities within and outside the school premises
  • Perform invigilation duties at a professional level
  • Perform classroom, hallway and/or playground supervision duties in a timely and professional manner
  • Participate in school committees and activities
  • Provide after-school extracurricular activities (ASA) and participate school out-reach programs as expected
  • Manage, coordinate and develop class programs based on the school curriculum
  • Participate and/or organize school calendared events and activities e.g. English/Math/Science/Humanity Week, Charity Sale etc.
  • Attend and/or organize school character development programs and assemblies
  •  Participate in school professional development programs
  • Attend required staff meetings
  • Develop and prepare teaching and learning resources
  • Compile, supplement and assist in ordering resources when necessary
  • Be familiar with the school curriculum and educational philosophy
  • Keep abreast of current educational theories and practice
  • File up-to-date copies of required curriculum documentation and planning, attendance and grade records as required on a regular basis
  • Ensure the equipment used is maintained in a safe working order and report to administration when necessary
  • Keep parents informed with students’ behavioral and academic progress on a regular basis
  • Communicate on a regular basis and work cooperatively with parents supporting students’ holistic development
  • Prepare and present in school parent events e.g. Parent Night, Parent-Teacher Conferences etc.
  • Be a sensible and positive member of the team
  • Work cooperatively with colleagues and parents to provide a caring and supportive school environment
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Homeroom teacher responsibilities

General duties

  • Get to know each student in the homeroom.
  • Be available, approachable and caring about students’ holistic development
  • Implement Character Development program of the school and develop students’ good character qualities
  • Monitor behavior, advise and encourage observance of school policies and regulations
  • Develop a sense of community in the Homeroom
  • Be knowledgeable of in-curricular and extracurricular programs of the school and give students advice accordingly
  • Assist School Office or other school divisions handling school newsletters, notices, surveys, parent letters etc.
  • Assist Parent Liaison staff working with parents to build a positive and supportive school environment
  • Work with the school administration to deal with students’ emotional or behavior problems

 

Special duties

Records

  • Keep accurate records of school attendance
  • Take notice of each student’s personal and social skill development and behavioral performance
  • Complete the Homeroom section in the Progress Report Card in a timely and professional manner with regards to students’ attendance, behavior and social skills, school activities etc.
  • Work with Office or administration to make sure the accuracy and filing of all records into the required program(s)

Report

  • Report student absence
  • Report to the Head any student with a pattern of late arrival, emotional or behavior problems

Communicate

  • Bring to notice Bulletin matters during each homeroom period
  • Deliver notices, memos, letters, timetables etc. from school to student
  • Advise students on organization of work/time management, study methods/strategies and whole-person development
  • Mentor students on social skill development, team spirit and how to deal with conflicts
  • Provide feedback to the administration with related to students
  • Dialogue with parents, counselors or other teachers when there is a concern
  • Communicate with School Office with regards to students’ leaves or absences
  • Collaborate with class team and communicate to parents students’ academic and behavioral performance on a weekly basis

Develop community

  • Plan team-building activities, assist in section or school events
  • Cooperate with School Office, Student Council or other school divisions on events, elections, and plans
  • Celebrate successes, birthdays and friendships in the classroom

Support and care

  • Set a tone of respect, kindness and openness with the students
  • Be available, with set times for sharing one-on-one
  • Dialogue with the homeroom group on matters that interest them or they have concerns

Monitor

  • Check attendance, and encourage respect at the class meetings or assemblies
  • Monitor language, dress and behavior code and observance of school or class rules

Character development

  • Plan and facilitate lessons related to the Character Development program
  • Enforce the character trait of the month as stated in the school calendar
  • Work with other teachers to organize character-development activities
  • Encourage and mentor whole-person development

Meetings

  • Participate in Homeroom teacher meetings biweekly or monthly and when needed
  • Participate in grade-level or administration meetings discussing students’ progress, emotional or behavior problems when needed
