Qualifications/Credentials

Position Summary

The role is responsible for coordination and monitoring of special education instructional programs. This position is designed for the educator who seeks to positively impact services provided to students with special education needs by supporting specially designed instruction, provision of services with fidelity, developing teachers and staff, using data to make instructional decisions and collaborating with parents and colleagues.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. An individual must be able to perform their duties in a positive work mode and serve as a positive role model and influence for youth and peers. BES teachers consider themselves learning designers so that students are at the center of a learning journey. Job Responsibilities

Specific Tasks:

  • Assists school leadership with the interpretation of special education vision, rules, and regulations concerning the educational programming of students receiving special education and related services
  • Collaborates with general education curriculum and instruction to ensure that special education supports the overall community instructional program
  • Collaborates with campus administrators on issues regarding programming, implementation and compliance related to serving students eligible for special education supports and services
  • Collaborates with Social Emotional Learning coordinator to ensure the development and implementation of Individualized Education Programs and RULER program and provides regular reports on status
  • Provides supportive assistance to personnel in instructional planning and the implementation of the individual education plan
  • Participates in member of staffing/admission, review and dismissal meetings as deemed necessary by the SLT
  • Facilitates interagency planning between the school division and external service providers such as residential care facilities and day treatment facilities.
  • Ensures accurate record keeping of students receiving special services or enrolled in special classes.
  • Provides systematic academic intervention and enrichment supports for students resulting in high quality standards-based instruction.
  • Facilitates a collaborative approach to support student success through programs and services involving family and community engagement.
  • Systematically designs a set of components including a counseling curriculum, responsive services, and systems supports for students.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned

 

Supervisory Duties

Undertakes school supervision duties in a professional manner providing a duty of care over all students

  • Demonstrate an advanced understanding on instructional strategies for students with autism, developmental delay, specific learning disabilities, and behavior disorders, etc.

  • Displays knowledge of child development and the ability to apply knowledge to the selection and application of curriculum materials and instructional practices
