Teacher of English - HD Ningbo School - China

Teacher of English

Appointment for August 2018

The role of Teacher of English represents an outstanding opportunity to become part of the team that is establishing HD Ningbo as a School that provides the best possible all-round education and care for each student in its care. The Teacher of English will be responsible for students aged 11 -18 and will prepare them for a range of English as a Second Language and iGCSE examinations within a context that is growing fast into a more mature bilingual learning environment. Currently students are primarily second language learners with a wide range of abilities and the teacher appointed will need to have the patience, imagination and skill to enhance pupils’ confidence and horizons within an environment where expectations are high. However pupils joining us in the Lower Secondary years from our Primary School generally have a good to excellent command of English and the opportunities for developing this cohort and achieving the highest of standards in and out of the taught curriculum will be extensive in years to come. As a mark of progress in this area, senior pupils will be embarking next year on the iGCSE (international) English programme and it will be part of the appointee’s responsibility to share in the planning of a future for the Department that will see English at an extremely high second language to native level permeating across the life of the School in all areas in years to come. The faculty currently comprises a newly appointed Head of Department and 7 further teachers, some of whom are international appointments and others bilingual Chinese. Whilst the appointee should ideally have both experience of, and qualifications in, the teaching of English as a Second / Foreign Language, applications will be considered from graduates of English or related disciplines who have a passion to inspire Chinese learners.
