  • Experience as vice principal for at least 2 years
  • Involved in the preparation for accreditation and inspection (preferably in Dubai with the KHDA).

For KHDA approval:

  • Experience of no less than 3 cumulative years’ in educational leadership in US curriculum Schools, where the candidate has held such positions as vice principal, head of section(s), or head of department.
  • For a first time principal candidate and for a candidate newly recruited to Dubai, an advanced (post-graduate) university degree/diploma/qualification in educational matters or equivalent or evidence he/she is working towards obtaining such a degree from a recognized institution.

For ADEK approval: (All certificates and qualifications must be duly notarized and attested)

  • Bachelor’s degree/University degree (4 year) in education or equivalent from a recognized and accredited educational institution and a minimum of five years of teaching experience, including school management experience.
  • Or Bachelor’s degree/University degree (4 year) school management or equivalent from a recognized and accredited educational institution and a minimum of four years of School management experience.
  • Or Bachelor’s degree/University degree (4 year) in different field or equivalent from a recognized and accredited educational institution, and a recognized and accredited diploma in educational leadership, and a minimum of six years teaching experience including School management experience.

Priority shall be given to any Principal who has the following:

  • A master’s degree/University degree (4 year) or another degree in educational leadership or management (from a recognized and accredited educational institution, and all certificates and qualifications must be duly notarized and attested).
  • Minimum international English language testing system (“IELTS”) academic score of six or equivalent for non-native English speakers in any school delivering a curriculum in English.

Certificates and Licenses

  •  Valid UAE teacher’s license.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skill, strong interpersonal skills, organizational and public relations skills.
  • Excellent teaching and proven skills in senior educational leadership and an outstanding teacher.
  • A strategic thinker, able to convert vision into action, collaborative team player, inspirational speaker, internationally minded, empathetic listener, integrity and maintain confidentiality.
  • Adept in multilingual settings, spirited, pioneering, professional and nurturing.
  • Display genuine love of learning and care for students.
  • To be honest; driven by integrity and leading through strong moral values.
  • Balancing between the internal, within the school and external, dealing with other entity demands of the job.
  • Evidence of innovation leading to raised standards and improved student and staff motivation.
  • Being able to manage a wide range of challenges, stresses and dilemmas, maintain a sense of humor and proportion whilst working under pressure.
  • Being bilingual in Arabic/ English or any other language is preferred.
  • Knowledge of child protection and health and safety.
  • Working knowledge of curriculum and instruction, international accreditation, inspection and evaluation frameworks.

Job Purpose

To work with the senior leadership team and other employees to bring about a continuous improvement in the quality of teaching and learning; managing systems for excellent student behavior and outcomes for learning and take appropriate action where shortcomings are identified.

 

Key Accountabilities

  • Be a visible leader: A leadership role in the coordination, monitoring, and updating strategic plans of the school by supporting the principal in providing communication to parents/caregivers, students, staff, community members.
  • Serve as instructional coach: Develop a close working relationship with HODs’, other section heads and team leads for the delivery of academic programs. To co-teach classroom lessons for the development of instructional quality assurance and review instructional strategies in practice, to evaluate and implement differentiated instruction in all classrooms.
  • A challenging and flexible curriculum: It is ensured and supported by creative and responsive teaching and effective learning environments, communicates with parents, students, and staff on matters of curriculum and learning.
  • Academic leader: To meet the targets for overall school achievement, monitor, and track trends in student performance across all academic areas for meeting targeted minimum levels or grades; implement effective learning and assessment frameworks that use data, benchmarks, and observation to monitor every student’s academic progress for enhancing school performance.
  • Pastoral support and student relationships: To provide social and emotional learning; positive recognition, and maintaining high expectations for behavior and conduct and student relationships; maximizing learning and attainment.
  • Teaching and learning: To lead on the development of teaching and learning focusing on pedagogy, standards, and progresses. To work with the principal for monitoring the quality of teaching within the school. Participates and leads internal subject reviews including setting targets for development and provide feedback to the department heads.
  • Provide oversight of the standards, policies, and protocols: To se forth in the school handbook in order to ensure that they are maintained by students, families, and teachers when necessary and appropriate; support the principal in overseeing this implementation.
  • Performance management: To support teacher improvement towards meeting performance goal metrics, encourage staff to continuously grow professionally. To ensure they are challenged to improve every passing year and experiment with new approaches or strategies to teaching.
  • Professional development: To attend external events, take part in peer review and be proactive in developing, designing, and deliver own professional development programs.
  • Coach and train: Use coaching methods to develop reflective practice in others and encourage the use of new learning strategies, train and evaluate employees, support staff to build capacity and to ensure high quality learning and assessment.
  • Other duties: Performs ad-hoc duties as assigned by Principal/COO.
  • To ensure the SAIS policies, procedures, and codes of conduct are followed at all times.
