A Master of Arts in Teaching–TESOL qualifies educators to work in a field estimated to reach one-third of the world’s inhabitants. TESOL master’s programs provide teachers with the detailed knowledge required to instruct students in the structure and mechanics of English while dealing with limitations stemming from the interference of the student’s first language. Teachers in the degree program develop techniques to work with students with little to no knowledge of English.
USC Rossier online programs hold the same high admissions standards as our on-campus programs. To be eligible, candidates must have a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution. Applicants whose prior study was outside the United States must have completed the equivalent of a U.S. bachelor’s degree (four years).
Applicants whose native language is not English, and who do not have a bachelor’s degree from a U.S. college or university, will be required to submit a valid score from the TOEFL Internet-based Test (TOEFL iBT).
Teachers with a master's specialization in TESOL qualify for jobs worldwide, including classroom teaching jobs, curriculum development positions, coordinator positions, and administrators. For educators who choose to return home after working abroad, the master’s degree in TESOL provides teachers with a wider range of career options upon their return.
