College Counsellor

RNIS is based in the city of Manacor on the beautiful island of Mallorca here in Spain. RNIS is managed by The Academy International School. Rafa Nadal School is seeking a dedicated and experienced College Counsellor to join our team. The ideal candidate will play a vital role in guiding our high school students through the college application process, with a particular focus on sports recruitment, especially for tennis elite athletes. The counselor will provide individualized guidance to students and families, assist with NCAA compliance for athletes, and facilitate university admissions processes.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide personalized counseling to high school students from 9th to 12th grade regarding academic planning, university selection, and career exploration.
  • Assist student-athletes, particularly tennis players, in navigating the NCAA eligibility process, including maintaining an NCAA account and ensuring compliance with recruitment rules.
  • Assist in developing and implementing educational programs in line with the US curriculum standards.
  • Provide leadership in curriculum development, teacher training, and student assessment methods.
  • Collaborate with the faculty to promote continuous improvement in instructional practices.
  • Conduct conferences with parents and students to discuss academic progress, university options, and future goals.
  • Collaborate with students to develop academic plans tailored to their country of choice and university aspirations.
  • Organize and host university fairs on campus, inviting representatives from various institutions to provide information and guidance to students.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with university representatives, attending university fly-in conferences, and coordinating visits from university admissions officers.
  • Plan and lead university tours to the USA, providing students with firsthand exposure to different campuses and environments.
  • Coordinate SAT preparation courses, liaising with online and testing coordinators to ensure effective instruction and support.
  • Evaluate incoming students' transcripts to verify credit transferability and alignment with NCAA requirements or graduation standards.
  • Stay updated on educational platforms such as the Common Application, Studielink, UCAS, and others, to assist students in navigating the application process effectively.
  • Maintain a flexible schedule to accommodate student and family needs, including availability for evening and weekend meetings or events.
  • Oversee student discipline and welfare, ensuring a safe and nurturing school environment.

Our School Day

We run two shifts. Teachers start at 8:00 and finish at 16:00 or start at 10:00 and finish at 18:00. Teachers are expected to attend the weekly staff meeting (timetable permitting).

  • Five or more years of teaching experience.
  • Experience in differentiating instruction and supporting students with learning challenges.
  • Knowledge of the American style of education and standards.

  • Flexibility and a team-spirit work ethic.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills.

Additional School Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in counseling, education, or a related field; master’s degree preferred.
  • Previous experience in university counseling, particularly with sports recruitment and NCAA compliance.
  • Strong knowledge of the American educational system, including university admissions processes and standardized testing requirements.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with students, parents, and university representatives.
  • Organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines efficiently.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to accommodate the diverse needs of students and families.
  • Proficiency in educational platforms and tools such as the Common Application, Studielink, and others.
  • Willingness to travel for university fairs, conferences, and tours, as required.
  • Commitment to providing inclusive and equitable support to all students, regardless of background or ability.

Required qualifications and skills:

  • Having a thorough understanding of the university application process and the importance of “best fit” for each student. This should be supported by an in-depth knowledge of universities around the world along with an awareness of the needs of our international and local students and parents while guiding them through the application process.
  • A strong knowledge of college and university admissions abroad, including academic preparation and testing, particularly in North America, the UK, and Europe
  • Creating and maintaining relationships with multiple stakeholders including admission and college counseling colleagues
  • The ability to understand, connect, and communicate with all levels and members of our community is essential to the success of this position.
  • Excellent written, communication, and interpersonal skills in English. Spanish will be appreciated.
