Counselor

Responsibilities

  • To assume responsibility for personal/social/academic counseling students in grades 9 through12 (and their parents) in regard to the entire college selection, application and admission procedures
  • Orient teachers, students, and parents to the type of services available to them through the counseling program
  • Maintain accurate records of students’ progress toward fulfilling high school graduation requirements and recommended courses for appropriate university applications
  • Plan and implement a student counseling program that outlines procedures for:
    • Teachers to follow when recommending students for counseling
    • The counseling process
    • The reporting of results to parents, teachers, and administrators
  • Assist in academic advising and scheduling
  • Coordinate the program and calendar of all standardized testing (MAP, PSAT, registration and follow-up for SAT, TOEFL, Advanced Placement, and, for candidates applying to Kuwait University, the appropriate subject-specific admissions tests) for students including scheduling test dates, registering students, arranging for special "prep" sessions, administering the tests, and providing pre- and post-test counseling
  • Help the registrar keep accurate permanent records of students’ testing and academic work
  • Develop the extensive summary reports on students’ progress on standardized testing to the school community as appropriate
  • Work with students to prepare college application packets including proper forms and school records
  • Work with registrar’s office to prepare leaving packets prior to graduation and up-to-date information in the permanent student records
  • Update documents as noted above
  • Maintain alumnae contact information and data
  • Maintain the confidentiality of student records
  • Conduct individual and group sessions in all areas of college counseling
  • Write the school recommendation by the end of the junior year of upcoming seniors making application to college
  • Oversee the faculty writing of the requested recommendations for students applying to college
  • Oversee visits to colleges and from college representatives
  • Represent the school at relevant state and national conferences and workshops
  • Conduct in-service training for teachers in student guidance and counseling
  • Keep up-to-date records of student scores on all standardized tests
  • Ensure that students access all relevant information about college admission requirements and preparation for admission
  • Make recommendations to the principal regarding students’ program placement and parent conferences
  • Help individual students entering the senior high school years in planning an appropriate course selection
  • Ensure senior high school student accumulate the required credits to meet all graduation requirements
  • Liaise with a variety of North American colleges and institutions of higher learning in the Gulf to develop privileged partnerships
  • Acquaint students with career options after college
  • Perform other counseling related duties as assigned by the HS Principal or Superintendent
