Engineering & Electronics Teacher

The engineering and electronics teacher plays a critical role in VMA’s growing STEM curriculum: combining coding with mechanical construction to inspire students to explore the boundaries of the applied sciences. In addition to teaching coding, this teacher also manages students’ participation in national and international robotics competitions. To that end, we are seeking a candidate with a strong background in engineering and a history of cultivating students’ interest and success in the field.

Job Goals

  • To instill in students a high regard for studying robotics in order to advance their understanding of the discipline’s societal role in a technologically sophisticated world
  • To develop in each student an appreciation of and deep enduring understanding of the benefits of studying robotics since it makes possible new technologies that protect and preserve human life
  • To instill a desire in students to further investigate the benefits of studying robotics in order to seek answers to important questions about science can be ethically and humanely applied
  • To provide optimum opportunities for students to develop their communication and collaboration skills through well-designed labs and projects 
  • To provide a rich curriculum that encourages both personal and academic achievement, challenging students to excel in robotics and in their personal development

Performance Responsibilities

  • Uses Next Generation Science Standards for Engineering (or a similar set of accepted standards) to develop and teach units of study
  • Designs project-based learning units of study to promote mastery of engineering skills and content
  • Teach the C coding language and embedded programming using Arduino
  • Be engaged in global communities of STEM teachers to keep VMA’s engineering and robotics programs up to date
  • Incorporate projects for local, national, and international engineering competitions into course assessments
  • Manage the engineering and robotics lab by assisting students with school assignments and fun exploratory projects and recommending new resources to be purchased

Qualifications and Requirements

Required Certificates
Teaching Credential/License
Education RequiredBachelor

Additional School Requirements
  • Valid teaching credential
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Computer science; master’s degree preferred
  • At least three years of teaching STEM at the secondary level
  • Proficiency in C, Java, and Python; teaching coding through project-based learning preferred
  • Experience teaching structured curriculum (AP, IB, A-levels) preferred
