Head of Aquatics - Bangkok

BASIS International School Bangkok is seeking qualified candidates for a Head of Aquatics for the upcoming school year!

The Head of Aquatics plays a key role in creating and managing a comprehensive swim program for the whole school, including the swim team, ECA’s, and swim curriculum.  The primary outcomes include safe practice in all activities, social and physical development of children, and emotional and mental wellbeing of children in and around the swimming pool. 

Main Job Responsibilities:

  • Manage the swim program for the whole school including the swim team, ECAs, and swim curriculum
  • Support the organization with the development of our Sports Program.
  • Supporting the P.E Department to develop the concept of excellence in all aspects of its operations
  • The planning and delivery of excellent lessons by the focuses associated with this job
  • Supporting the development of the P.E curriculum in collaboration with the school’s management and other members of the P.E. Department to ensure the development, evaluation, and revision of the academic curriculum, ensuring continual improvement
  • Supporting colleagues with the specialist skills of the job holder
  • Monitoring the performance of students and ensuring that assessment and reporting procedures are followed by school policy
  • Participating in the formulation of school sports teams, duly coaching and managing as directed
  • Supporting the ethos of healthy living throughout the school’s population
  • Be mindful of the equipment used in school, checking to ensure it is fit for purpose and the spaces used for P.E. are safe

Work Experience

  • A Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree preferred. Candidates must have the ability to clear a thorough background check and understand child safeguarding practices.
  • A successful applicant must demonstrate a high level of academic attainment and experience working in a high school or other academic setting. Beyond this, strong communication and networking skills in speaking with parents, students, admissions officers, and colleagues are essential as is the ability to elicit (not simply edit) competitive application essays and write exceptional letters of recommendation. Finally, a successful applicant will be flexible and work well in a fast-moving team environment. 
  • Experience with a Top Tier University in Thailand and/or experience as a College Counsellor at another Private school in Thailand is preferred.
  • Excellent mastery of the Thai language, both spoken and written is critical, along with a deep understanding of Thai culture and the educational aspirations of families.

  • Ability to build excellent rapport and productive relationships with middle and high-school students
  • Work effectively in a small team environment with a “can-do-anything” mindset
  • Knowledgeable of the Thai college admissions process and a proponent of the “best-fit” model as a goal for families; experience with U.S. universities strongly preferred
  • Ability to build a world-class college admissions and career planning program for outstanding students
  • Ability to productively resolve conflicts among students and their parents about college and career goals
  • STA Level 2 or equivalent
