Head of Elementary School

Reports to:  School Management Committee 

Scope of Work

The Elementary Principal position is an integral part of the management team and in particular, works closely with the Head of School and leadership team. He/She is responsible for the development of the elementary school curriculum, for the implementation of the school programme and faculty professional development. He/She will ensure an inclusive and safe learning- teaching environment for the students and staff.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensures the school's Vision and Objectives are well articulated within the elementary school (grades PreK-5).
  • Ensures high expectations for all members of the elementary school, including staff and students by modelling strong instructional leadership.
  •  Works closely with the leadership team and teachers to ensure that rigorous instruction and curricula are the norm.
  • Promotes inclusiveness and celebration of diversity throughout the school.
  • Ensures safe learning and teaching environment.
  • Manages the daily operations of the elementary school.
  • Oversees the hiring of elementary school staff and advises the management on annual recruiting needs.
  • Monitors orientation and mentoring of new staff
  • Undertakes appraisal and professional development of staff
  • Stays current with educational research and practices
  • Prepares and supervises all documentation required for evaluation and accreditation
  • Provides comprehensive information about the curriculum programme, its aims and requirements to students, parents, and teachers as appropriate
  • Monitors and supports measures that ensure continuous development of the school to fulfill its vision and mission

Job Benefits

 Benefits: for international candidates

  • Tax-Free Salary* as per the existing laws of the Sultanate of Oman. In case at any point in time, a personal income tax is levied, the employee will need to pay the same
  • Medical Insurance for employees only, EXCLUDING Dental and Prescription glass
  • Annual Airfare to hometown in Economy class for the employee, spouse and two children up to 18 years if they are on the school visa and staying with the employee
  • Relocation airfare provided at the beginning and end of contract for employee, spouse and two children up to 18 years      
  • Relocation allowance provided only for the employee at the beginning and end of contract for additional 20 kgs over and above the airlines free baggage allowance 
  • Annual Leave: 45 days total annual paid leave for candidates with a 2-year contract   
  •  30 days for candidates with less than 2-year contract          
  •  Candidates who start in January: 45 days full paid leave at the end of the second contract
  • Dependent’s School Fees: Children of teachers will be eligible to get a 50% subsidy on the tuition fees if studying in Paradise Valley Private School
  • The Visa/medical fees done in Oman will be paid in full  for employees only. For dependents, employee has to bear the expenses   
  • End of Service Benefits: For each 2 years of full service, school will pay 1 months basic salary as gratuity      
  • The employer will arrange for the employee to be picked up from the airport on arrival and taken to a guest house/ service apartment where they will be put up for a maximum period of one month, during which they will have to finalise their accommodation with the help of the school authorities

 

* The salary package is Cost to Company(CTC) - Tax free salary inclusive of HRA / Utilities, Lunch and Transport. If choose to stay in company provided accommodation then HRA  would be deducted from the CTC

Additional School Requirements

Education: 

  • Master’s Degree in Education/ Educational Administration/ Educational Management
  • Teaching certification in PYP 
  • Leadership and Administrative experience and certification

 

Experience

  • Minimum of 7 years teaching experience at the elementary level
  • 3 years of  leadership role experience in an established IB School preferred
  • Understands and has experience with Early Childhood education and PYP curriculum
  • Given the upcoming PYP candidacy and evaluations, the head must be cognizant of the PYP programme; the standards and practices with regard to evaluation; and have experience within an IB school
  • Understands and has experience with Early Childhood education and PYP Curriculum 
  • In depth knowledge of Inquiry Based Learning 
  • Experienced in leading workshops 

 

Requirements

  • Native English speaker
  • Proficiency in any additional language is an advantage
  • Adequate experience and excellent references
