Position Summary:    

The High School Principal will pledge his/her commitment to provide leadership, organizational and management skills to further the intellectual and personal development of our students, inspiring and empowering them to become positive, active global citizens.  The Associate Principal champions the mission, vision and strategies for ASD and the division.

 

The High School Principal is a member of the school’s leadership team, reporting to the Director-General and has responsibility for:

  • Managing the daily operation of the division, providing leadership in assessment and development of a standards-based curriculum,
  • Developing a collaborative and nurturing environment that is focused on learning,
  • Assigning, scheduling, supervising and evaluating faculty and staff,
  • Effectively projecting the school’s image, and
  • Representing the school within the community.

The High School Principal must be learning focused, student-centered and enjoy working closely with students in their activities and day-to-day life at IPS-J.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Instructional Leadership:
    • The High School Principal facilitates the implementation and revision of the standards-based curriculum.  He or she assists in the evaluation of the school program using both internal and external student learning data.  He or she works with the Vice Principal and teams to establish and assess yearly goals in alignment with ISP-J’s Guiding Statements, accreditation recommendations and student achievement data.  He or she collaborates with subject area coordinators, grade level and department teams to refine and develop curriculum units of instruction and advance divisional goals.
  • Student Achievement Data:
    • The High School Principal assists in the review of the school program using both internal and external student learning data. He or she will assist in the creation of action plans designed to improve learning based on internal and external data. 
  • Faculty and Staff Recruitment:
    • The High School Principal will assist, as assigned by the Director-General, in the recruiting process to hire exemplary faculty and teaching assistants within the division.
  • Professional Growth and Evaluation of Teachers:
    • The High School Principal will be responsible for the professional evaluation and coaching of faculty in conjunction with the Vice Principal.  He or she will ensure that teachers have access to professional learning opportunities that align with the school’s strategic plan. He or she will provide leadership for the implementation and follow up on professional learning activities.
  • Scheduling:
    • The High School Principal assists in the formation of the division school calendar as well as the creation of a master schedule.  He or she will also lead and participate in special events for the division and total school program.
  • Implementation of the School Program:
    • The High School Principal provides direction to staff in implementing school-wide initiatives such as the development of instructional goals, Understanding by Design unit planning on Atlas Rubicon, implementing differentiated instruction, and Student Management System.
  • Student Support:
    • The High School Principal monitors students receiving special services and serves as a member of the Child Study Team. The High School Principal is responsible for communicating with parents and prepares documentation for students of concern.
  • Admissions:
    • The High School Principal is involved in providing the framework for the opening of school as well as assisting with the implementation of student orientation, registration procedures, and student entrance assessments for applicants. Works collaboratively with the Admissions team to ensure that admissions procedures and standards for entrance are maintained and followed.
  • Budgeting:
    • The High School Principal involves the staff in setting budget priorities and assists with the ordering process. He or she assumes responsibility for sound financial management including accurate program budget planning and fiscal accountability.
  • Professional Learning:
    • The High School  Principal is proactive in improving his or her own professional knowledge and skills in the area of leadership, curriculum, and best practices.
  • Student Discipline:
    • The High School Principal is involved with student discipline issues and is responsible for implementing the Values Learning Plan and behavioral matrix.  The High School Principal also disseminates information about school disciplinary policies and procedures to parents, students, and staff of the community.
  • Coordinating School Services and Resources:
    • The High School Principal is involved in maintaining quality auxiliary services such as the cafeteria and health services and uses community resources to supplement the school program.

Additional School Requirements
  • Strong academic qualifications with an MA or advanced graduate study in education
  • Valid teaching credential with five years of teaching experience
  • Excellent organizational, administrative and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and safeguard confidential information
  • Sensitivity in meeting the needs of an international student body
  • Demonstrated leadership with experience in curriculum development and co-curricular programs
  • Experience in a similar International and/or regional environment is an advantage
  • Proficient in IT for productivity purposes and as a tool to facilitate learning in the classroom
