Role and Responsibilities

  • Ensuring the AIS school Mission, Beliefs, and Objectives are well articulated within the high school (grades 9-12)
  • Ensuring high expectations for all members of the high school, including staff and students
  • Supporting the continuous improvement of the high school and the development of a shared vision of learning and action
  • Modelling strong instructional leadership by maintaining a strong professional culture with a focus on continuously improving teaching and learning
  • Working closely with the high school leadership team and teachers to ensure that rigorous instruction and curricula are the norm
  • Monitoring initiatives closely and supports measures that support continuous achievement gains closely tied to whole-school objectives and initiatives
  • Managing the daily operations of the high school
  • Overseeing the high school teacher assessment model tied to continuous growth and improvement
  • With the Curriculum Director and Middle School Principal, developing strong ties to the IB Programme Coordinators (DP and MYP) and the subject Heads of Department to ensure programme adherence and vertical and horizontal curricular articulation and alignment
  • Working closely with the Superintendent and the Administrative Council to maintain a fiscally sound high school
  • Advising the superintendent on annual recruiting needs and is active in the hiring of high school staff working closely with the high school leadership team to ensure ideal learning environments are valued
  • Working collaboratively with the Administrative Council to ensure that health and safety of all students is paramount
  • Collaborating with high school families to ensure that diverse community interests are called upon and have impact on the high school
  • Upholding and recommends procedures that have impact on the high school and the whole school, in general, and which may lead to recommended new or revised AIS school Board policy
  • Collaborating with the Curriculum Director on issues of curriculum development and instructional coaching, and sits on the Curriculum Council
  • Assisting the MYP and DP Coordinators with the implementation of the MYP and the DP
  • Taking initiative to inspire and to develop professional learning opportunities for all staff tied to programmatic, curricular, and/or objective-based initiatives
  • Contributing significantly to the Administrative Council
  • Co-Chairing with the Middle School Principal monthly Head of Department leadership team meetings
  • The incumbent is the supervisory officer of the assigned school for the administration and supervision of said school
  • Conducting (informal and formal as necessary) supervision and evaluation of faculty
  • A minimum of one written evaluation submitted to the Superintendent yearly
  • Supervising the annual book/materials ordering, before orders are submitted to the Superintendent for review and signature
  • Responsible for High School financial budget and ensure that it remains in the assigned guidelines
  • Meeting with parents as needed and requested
  • Planning and writing the class schedule
  • Making teaching assignments
  • Advising the Superintendent on recruiting needs
  • Recommending grade placement of applicants to Superintendent
  • Organizing and preparing for Parents' Day
  • Scheduling examination sessions as needed
  • Facilitating and overseeing curriculum development
  • Assisting with and supervising the implementation of Middle Year’s Programme (MYP) and Diploma Programme (DP)
  • Ensuring the IB diploma and certificate candidates receive proper and correct guidance
  • Ensuring administrative and teacher supervision at extracurricular functions
  • Ensuring regular departmental meetings are held and minutes circulated as appropriate
  • Ensuring regular payment of Head of Department allowances
  • Advising the Superintendent on in-service needs
  • Appointing the National Honor’s Society (NHS) Selection Committee within the High School
  • Monitoring the general appearance and maintenance of the building
  • Attending weekly administration meeting
  • Chairing monthly Head of Department meetings as needed
  • Chairing high school faculty meetings

 

Occupational Health and Safety

  • Complying with workplace policies and procedure for risk identification, risk assessment, and risk control
  • Participating in activities associated with the management of workplace health and safety
  • Identifying and reporting health and safety risks, accidents, incidents, injuries, and property damages at the workplace

 

Additional Notes

  • All teachers are required to spend one additional non-paid hour per week to substitute for a colleague, or to plan, attend or supervise extra-curricular activities or events
  • Attendance is required 30 minutes before and after school
  • All staff is required to attend all school events which includes but is not limited to
  • Professional development days, sports days, International Day, AIS Carnival, parent-teacher conferences, etc.

  • Bachelor's degree in teaching subject from western university and a Master's degree in school administration or related field from western university
  • IB DP and MYP experience
  • Native speaker of English
  • Principal’s Certification/Credential
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in education
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in administration
  • IB experience
