High School Social Studies (with IB History) Teacher
Scope of Responsibilities:
The teacher’s primary responsibility is to ensure student-learning success, providing for the individual learning needs of each student in line with the ISK mission, vision and educational aims. Teaching responsibility for this position normally includes a combination of IB History and other high school Social Studies courses such as World Civilizations 1 and/or World Civilizations 2 (see the ISK high school course guide online for a full listing of all Social Studies courses). Assignment may also include any other course that may be reasonably assigned (e.g., any IB Group 3 course, Theory of Knowledge). Additionally, the teacher will be expected to participate in a variety of collaborative teams and committees, fulfil supervision duties as assigned including some evening and weekend events (as well as off-campus trips), serve as advisor to a small group of students, advise students on their Extended Essays or other projects, and supervise/coach one co-curricular activity in the course of the academic year.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Work as a collaborative member of the high school Social Studies Department
- Implement a program of study that adheres to the high school curriculum, IB or otherwise, as adopted by the Board of Directors
- Collaborate with colleagues in bringing the ISK Educational Aims to life
- Differentiate instruction to address the preferred learning styles of various students in class
- Integrate technology within lessons to enhance instructional delivery
- Understand the school assessment philosophy and conduct ongoing assessment of student progress, using data obtained to adjust instructional content and techniques accordingly
- Be available to assist students outside of class time
- Communicate regularly with parents through e-mail, telephone and conferences
- Maintain professional competence in instructional techniques and in specialized teaching through in-service education activities and self-selected professional growth activities
- Evaluate and respond to students’ academic, social, emotional and physical growth
- Keep appropriate, up-to-date records, and prepare progress reports as needed
- Attend relevant departmental, divisional and K-12 professional meetings as necessary
- Participate on faculty committees and curriculum development programs as required
- Promote a positive learning environment, including maintaining high standards for students’ habits of learning
- Supervise a student advisory group, including supporting students’ CAS/L programs
- Participate in and, if appropriate, supervise an intercultural trip
- Sponsor a minimum of one extra-curricular student activity
- Perform other duties as may be reasonably assigned by the Principal
