Job Summary
Social Studies teachers' responsibilities include teaching elements of history, geography, politics, economics, religion, and culture to students. SS Teachers should keep abreast of current events and initiate spirited, respectful debates amongst students.
 

Essential Duties
A SS teacher typically has a wide range of responsibilities, which can include:

  • Analyzing the needs, interests, strengths, and weaknesses of students and developing lesson plans on these factors.
  • Monitoring progress and discipline and keeping parents of learners who need extra support
  • Establishing classroom and debating rules and ensuring all students obey these rules.
  • Organizing field trips and ensuring permission slips are handed out and signed promptly.
  • Participating in school events and acting as a chaperone when required.
  • Attending meetings, staff trainings, and other ongoing learning programs/competitions as requested by the administration.
  • Informing students of learning opportunities and preparing them for formal debates and other events.

 

Work Environment

The employee has frequent contact with students and members of the community. Duties are normally performed in a school/classroom environment. Duties may be occasionally performed on field trips away from school. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities Required)

  • SS teachers must possess a Bachelor’s degree in education, history, geography, or a related discipline. possess excellent interpersonal, communication, and debating skills.
  • Must have strong multitasking abilities and sound knowledge of current events.
  • Must have strong cultural sensitivity.
  • Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, parents, and the public.
  • Applicants with educational credentials earned outside of the United States will have to obtain an ECE certificate upon hire.
  • The applicant will be responsible for all expenses to obtain the ECE certificate. 
  • All new hires from outside of the United States will be responsible for obtaining all of the required immunizations, documents and clearances from their country of origin to enter the US territory.
  • This will include any costs that may be incurred during this process.
