Arbor Valley Academy is an online school based in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Arbor Valley Academy, or AVA, serves k-12 students who seek online learning, one on one assistance, and a customized and or accelerated learning plan. Students are normally assigned one course per month through our partnered learning software company, Edgenuity. Teachers at AVA do not teach directly, but rather advise and monitor student progress, as well as grade writing assignments. The majority of student learning is standardized and through pre-made lessons and assessments.=
Job Description:
This position requires a certified teacher with a specialization in one or more core subjects. Teachers will be responsible for up to 50 students, and will serve as an advisor for students on a daily basis. Teachers will not be responsible for directly teaching students, and will mainly focus on providing academic support, as well as grading writing assignments.
Responsibilities:
- Evaluating incoming student transcripts, and creating educational plans
- Checking in with students on a daily basis through email or Google Hangout
- Grading essays and writing assignments
- Answering phone calls from prospective students who are interested in enrolling
- Aligning educational plans for student athletes with NCAA guidelines
- Logging daily grades and progress of all students
