International Preschool Teacher

Welcome to Kids International School!  KIS is an English Immersion preschool located in central Japan. It was founded to provide young children a wonderful opportunity for international awareness at an early age in a warm, safe, and positive environment in 1995.

Native English-speaking teachers are paired with Japanese co-teachers in each class.  We work with children that are 2 to 5 years of age. Classes are separated by age and children will stay with their group as they move up. We typically have 12-18 children per class with two teachers at all times.

Teachers will work together to plan, prepare and implement a developmentally appropriate curriculum unique to their classroom goals and the individuality of the children. We use the Creative Curriculum guidelines as the core of our curriculum planning. Lesson plans will support emotional development and stimulate curiosity using songs, stories, and creative activities. KIS encourages teachers to express their own personalities and passions in the classroom environment and activities.

Job Benefits

Q: What’s great about the work environment?

Teachers are given the freedom to design their own curriculum and activities as long as it is appropriate developmentally for their class.  All classrooms are supported by active office staff to help them implement their ideas.

KIS is located within walking distance of several interesting parks and outdoor environments. Local buses also pass in front of the school throughout the day if a trip to parks farther away is planned.

There are a variety of shops in the area from restaurants, small boutiques, craft stores, recycle/second-hand stores, and several big shopping centers or malls.

Q: What’s the work/life balance?

Teachers are scheduled to work an 8 or 9 hour day 5 Monday through Friday.  Teachers are not expected to take work home or to work extra long hours.

We typically have a 3 day weekend almost every month due to Japanese national holidays.

Between each of the three school terms, the regular school is closed and teachers are able to take some paid vacation time off.  Along with teachers' vacation time (10 days to start), there are six extra summer vacation days and four added vacation days around New Year.

Q: Are there opportunities to grow and develop?

At KIS and the Education Network, a variety of relative training is presented throughout the year.  Teachers are encouraged to share what they know with each other and some teachers are able to present their knowledge to a group.  We train teachers on what we expect from them such as computer users to create a variety of documents and newsletters, assessment and report writing training, behavior challenge training, and other topics that may arise.
