Librarian

Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain in the school library a teaching and learning environment that is inviting, safe, flexible and conducive to student engagement and learning.
  • Partners in Action: Collaborate with teachers to prepare daily lesson plans that support the classroom literacy block and/or other projects that students are working on in the classroom (research, writing, reading support). Make available a wide range of teaching materials and equipment, including reading materials at many levels, instructional games, resource materials etc.
  • Communication: When sending email information to staff, first get approval from Principal for the communication prior to mailing.
  • Use the Follett system effectively to code and monitor books/ library materials.
  • Take a lead role on committees that support literacy development in the school (Young Authors Day, Reading for Pleasure initiatives, RED)

Support Students:

  • Develop library routines that engage students in their continued learning from the classroom to the library and vice versa.
  • Teach students directly – research skills, reading sessions etc.
  • Keep library open before and after-school for students to borrow books.
  • Support students with reading during ‘Counting on You’ (after-school intervention).

Organize events for CBS students:

  • Book Fairs twice a year
  • Author visits to enhance the learning experiences (Author’s Abroad, Comic Workshop, Poet’s workshop, etc.)
  • Young Author’s Day for ES and HS

Other

  • PD: Share expertise by presenting at faculty meetings and parent meetings.
  • Maintain a high standard of library and corridor displays which reflect the work of the students
  • Research and develop a plan to improve the collection of digital books in the library. This is particularly important for high school so that there is access to more resources.
  • Actively lead the ‘Reading for Pleasure’ program school-wide.
  • Conduct a monthly review of the reading logs of students from Gr 1 – 6 and send a consolidated class-wise report on the statistics to the Principal, Vice Principal and Academic Coordinator by the 30th of every month.
  • Do the supervision duty as assigned on the school staff supervision schedule.
  • Be an ambassador of the school and be actively involved in promoting the school.
  • Participate in activities designated by the Principal as and when required.
  • Attend monthly staff meetings conducted by administrators.
  • Provide occasional classroom coverage on a rotating basis with staff in an emergency situation.
  • Work in harmony with all CBS staff and students to meet the mission of the school.
  • Read, understand and comply with all CBS policies and procedures.
  • Perform other appropriate duties as the school may assign from time to time.

 

Extra-Curricular Activities:

  • Participating in one mandatory afterschool extracurricular activity which develops the after school program and helps to develop school teams that participate competitively at various levels representing the school. It is mandatory to attend scheduled meetings for extra-curricular activities.

 

Individual Goals:

  • Be ambassadors in promoting the school.
  • Read, understand and comply with the policy and procedures of CBS
  • Remain current in professional practices and developments, information technologies, and educational research applicable to school library programs.
  • To comply with all work expectations as laid out in the staff handbook.

Department Goals:

  • To foster a positive relationship and attitude between all staff, management, school owners and the community.
  • Abiding and aligning library efforts with CBS school improvement plan.

Reports:

  • Monthly report to the Principals, Operations Manager and Academic Coordinator.
    • MSA Reading for Pleasure Objective
    • Reading Log usage Statistics – Gr 1-6
  • Detailed Five year plan to be assessed and revised as needed by February of each year.
