Local Omani Teacher Assistant

Reports to: Elementary School Head

 

Scope of Work

A teacher’s assistant is responsible for helping the homeroom teacher run classes smoothly by taking on common classroom tasks at the homeroom teacher’s direction. The everyday duties of an assistant teacher include performing clerical duties like taking attendance, grading classwork and homework, and other record-keeping and instruction tasks. An assistant helps monitor students in the classroom, hallways, cafeteria, playground, and on school trips. Assistants commonly provide additional instructional assistance to students who need extra help in completing their work. The post-holder will assist in all aspects related to the safety and well- being of the children in the school, ensuring that the child’s emotional, physical, social and cerebral development are developed .

 

Responsibilities

  • To work alongside and support one or more teachers
  • To be involved in the planning and organisation of activities to meet the learning and developmental needs of individuals and the group to achieve planned outcomes
  • To assist in ensuring it is safe and secure and that the space is well organised, complaint with relevant regulations and used appropriately
  • To participate in all major events e.g. Open Mornings, Fun Days, Charity events etc
  • To attend regular staff meetings to review school policy and to plan appropriate routines and activities designed to provide a stimulating environment for attending children
  • To play a full and active part in ensuring that the class environment is warm and welcoming for both children, staff and parents
  • Being constantly aware of the needs of any children to whom English is another language
  • Ensure that all assessments, other evidence and recording of student's work are kept up to date and according to IBO requirements
  • Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all pupils
  • Provide feedback to pupils in relation to progress and achievement under the guidance of the Homeroom teacher
  • Support the use of technology in learning activities and develop pupils’ competence and independence in its use
  • Prepare, maintain and use equipment/resources required to meet the lesson plans/relevant learning activity and assist pupils in their use

Job Benefits

  • Annual Leave: 45 days total annual paid leave
  • For Omani employees, the contributions to PASI will be deducted as per month's basic salary as gratuity
  • Contract Period: 2 year contract renewable every 2 years as per the Omani Labour Laws with 5%-8% increase in basic salary depending on the performance
