Middle School English Language Learners Teacher (Tentative Position)
Scope of Work:
The teacher’s primary responsibility is to provide instruction and support for middle school students enrolled in the ELL program. Teaching responsibilities will include working with students in an ELL classroom setting, as well as various subject class settings. Additionally the teacher will be expected to participate in a variety of collaborative teams and committees; fulfil supervision duties as assigned, including some evening and weekend events; and supervise/coach one co-curricular activity in the course of the year.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Work as a collaborative member of all middle school departments, using the co-teaching model
- Implement a program of study that adheres to the course curriculum, as adopted by the Board of Directors
- Collaborate with colleagues in applying the ISK Educational Aims to all aspects of schooling
- Differentiate instruction to address preferred learning styles and the needs and readiness levels of various students in class
- Integrate technology within lessons to enhance instructional delivery
- Understand and conduct ongoing assessment of student progress, including WIDA testing, and use assessment data to inform planning and instruction, and reflect on instructional techniques accordingly
- Attend Students of Concern meetings
- Be available to assist students outside of class time
- Communicate regularly with parents through e-mail, telephone and parent-teacher conferences
- Attend and participate actively in relevant departmental, divisional and K-12 professional meetings
- Participate on faculty committees and curriculum development programs as required
- Promote a positive learning and teaching environment
- Assume responsibility for meaningful professional growth, including remaining current and informed regarding educational research and best practices
- Participate in and supervise an annual week-long intercultural trip
- Sponsor a minimum of one extra-curricular student activity
- Perform other duties as may be reasonably assigned by the Principal
