Middle School IT Teacher

Scope of Work:
The teacher’s primary responsibility is to ensure the success of each student as detailed in the ISK mission, vision, ISK Aims, and the ISK Technology Vision and Integration Plan. This position is part technology integration facilitation and part teaching. Teaching responsibilities may include Tech/Computer instruction for MS students and Tech Integration in  MS classrooms. Additionally the teacher will be expected to participate in a variety of collaborative teams and committees; fulfill administrative and supervision duties as assigned, including some evening and weekend events. All teachers are expected to contribute to the co-curricular program.
 
Leading for Learning:

  • Collaborate with colleagues in bringing the ISK Educational Aims to life through technology
  • Work and actively support MS teachers, assistants, admin in a Google Apps workflow environment
  • Plan and co-teach Middle School technology-embedded lessons with class teachers
  • Initiate, participate, and lead in technology integration Professional Learning opportunities that develop teachers’ capacity to provide rich student learning through technology
  • Encourage selection and use of technology apps for creation, open exploration, and demonstrations of learning
  • Keep abreast of emerging technology and demonstrate innovative ways of using it to expand student learning in collaborative and real-world situations;
  • Assume a guiding role in the implementation of MakerSpaces with grade level teacher
  • Develop and share ways to learn through use of the design process, computational thinking and coding, photos and graphics, stop motion video, simple animation, digital storytelling, robotics, simple app-making, and basic web design
  • Assist teachers in developing awareness and effective implementation of digital teaching and learning strategies based on ISK ICT goals within the curriculum; Research, model, and promote use of emerging digital tools and support teachers and students in developing efficient implementation in their classes. Document technology infusion and exemplars across the middle school curriculum
  • Explore assessment in the form of digital student portfolios with teachers (Learning Board)
  • Develop and monitor a successful Digital Citizenship Program integrated into the classroom
  • Analyse data and present results as a foundation for goal-setting and future program proposals
  • Develop and model the value of a Personal Learning Network for teachers and students

Managing for Learning:

  • Manage the 1:1 iPad/Chromebook program for Middle School students and teachers
  • Serve on the K-12 Technology Integration Committee (when it exists)
  • Communicate regularly with parents via email, telephone, parent-teacher conferences
  • Attend relevant departmental, divisional and K-12 professional meetings as necessary
  • Participate on faculty committees and curriculum development programs as required
  • Promote a growth mindset in a positive learning environment
  • Assume responsibility for meaningful professional growth
  • Participate in and supervise a MS  intercultural trip
  • Sponsor a minimum of one co-curricular student activity
  • Perform other duties as may be reasonably assigned by the Principal

Teaching Responsibilities:

  • Work as a collaborative member

  • Promote a positive learning environment, including high standards for habits of learning
  • Maintain professional competence in instructional techniques and in specialized teaching through in-service education activities and self-selected professional growth activities
  • Integrate technology within lessons to enhance instructional delivery
  • Understand the school assessment philosophy and conduct ongoing assessment of student progress, using data obtained to adjust instructional content and techniques accordingly
  • Differentiate instruction to address preferred learning styles
  • Support the philosophy of inclusion and the ongoing development of personalized, student-directed learning
  • Plan for the application of skills and concepts across disciplines and co-curricular activities
  • Communicate regularly with parents through e-mail, telephone and parent/student/teacher conferences
