Middle School Learning Support Teacher

Scope of Work:
The teacher’s primary responsibility is to ensure the success of each student as detailed in the ISK Mission, Vision and Aims.  Teaching responsibilities may include working with students in the learning support class and regular classroom setting. Additionally the teacher will be expected to participate in a variety of collaborative teams and committees; fulfil supervision duties as assigned, including some evening and weekend events; and supervise/coach one co-curricular activity in the course of the year.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with colleagues in applying the ISK Educational Aims to all aspects of schooling
  • Work with the Student Support Services (SSS) Coordinator to insure the implementation of the school-wide program as outlined in the SSS manual
  • Develop and monitor Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for students based on testing results, teacher input and observations
  • Develop and monitor Response to Intervention (RTI) plans for specific students not on IEPs
  • Provide appropriate support for students through in-class co-teaching, learning support classes, consultation, and monitoring
  • Understand and conduct ongoing assessment of student progress of IEP goals. Use assessment data to inform planning and instruction, and reflect on instructional techniques accordingly
  • Collaborate with middle school teachers to support students in mainstream classes
  • Differentiate instruction to address preferred learning styles and the needs and readiness levels of various students in class
  • Integrate technology within lessons to enhance instructional delivery
  • Be available to assist students outside of class time
  • Communicate regularly with parents through e-mail, telephone, SSTs, and parent-teacher conferences
  • Attend and participate actively in relevant departmental, divisional and K-12 professional meetings
  • Participate on faculty committees and curriculum development programs as required
  • Promote a positive learning and teaching environment
  • Assume responsibility for meaningful professional growth, including remaining current and informed regarding educational research and best practices
  • Participate in and supervise an annual weeklong intercultural trip
  • Sponsor a minimum of one extra-curricular student activity
  • Perform other duties as may be reasonably assigned by the Principal

  • Experience with the co-teaching model when delivering instruction

  • Commitment to integrated, experiential, and personalized approaches to instruction
  • Teaching experience in a multi-cultural setting
  • Minimum 2 years teaching experience in specific IB subject area, where relevant
  • Experience with the Understanding by Design curriculum model
  • Experience with inquiry-based learning
  • Experience with Virtual Learning Environment (e.g., Moodle, Google classroom) and electronic grade books
  • Experience in data analysis and goal setting to improve learning
