Middle School Math Teacher

AISC Full-time Math Teacher, Grades 6-9

 

Demonstrated ability to…

  • work cooperatively with staff and develop rapport with students.
  • teach math to grades 6-12.
  • communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • conduct lessons on-line via Google Meets.
  • plan special school-wide projects and events.
  • seek and develop partnerships with outside agencies/resources to enhance the authenticity of the math curriculum.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain up-to-date lesson plans through the year.
  • Teach math – particularly hands-on activities and projects -- to students in grades 6-12.
  • Teach courses Integrated Math I, Integrated Math II, Integrated Math III and Pre-calculus.
  • Deliver lessons daily incorporating Learning Targets, Essential Questions and Success Criteria.
  • Maintain an assessment and grading system based on the AERO Standards and housed in Google Classrooms.
  • Complete and submit grades and comments on Progress Reports quarterly and on Report Cards at the end of each semester.
  • Take an active leadership role in school-wide Curriculum Mapping.
  • Order and maintain inventory of Grade 6-12 materials, equipment and books.
  • Maintain class discipline, follow-up, feedback and documentation.
  • Make parental contacts.
  • Take part in Back-to-School Night events and two evening Parent-Teacher Conferences.
  • Monitor and annotate student notebooks, folders, and portfolios.
  • Develop and utilize math rubrics in all grades.
  • Contribute to the school’s Weekly Updates in Instruction.
  • Contribute to and update the school's Monthly Unit Plans.
  • Take an active role in weekly professional development sessions.
  • Attend training on Mathematics instruction, if available.
  • Conduct Parent Workshop on Mathematics Learning Targets outside of school hours.
  • Contribute to the school’s MSA Re-accreditation process.
  • Lead and facilitate a Student Club of your own interest.
  • Take part in planning, leading, and participating in day or overnight field trips with colleagues. 
  • Perform other duties as directed by the Director.

Selection Criteria:

  • U.S. or International Teaching License in Mathematics, preferred.
  • Degree or coursework in Mathematics.
  • Full-time Mathematics teaching experience.
  • Knowledge of AERO Standards in Mathematics.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English required.  
  • Facility in French language preferred.
  • Previous experience living in West Africa is preferred.
  • Flexibility and a sense of humor are a must.
