PreK Teacher

Role and Responsibilities

The classroom teacher works collaboratively to plan, deliver, and assess the AIS curriculum through the framework of the Primary Years Programme (PYP) while utilizing AIS-sanctioned programs, initiatives, and resources in concert with their grade level team under the guidance of the PYP coordinator and Pedagogical Leadership Team. 

Duties towards the school:

  • Understanding and upholding school policies and procedures as shared through the faculty handbook, the staff assessment handbook, divisional and programme guides, and the AIS technology handbook.
  • Understanding the four domains of teacher evaluation: planning, classroom climate, instruction, and professional responsibilities.
  • Maintaining professional relationships with colleagues, students, and parents and safeguard privileged information about students, faculty members, and administration.
  • Taking safety and precautionary measures to protect students from harm through the monitoring of facilities, equipment, and other resources.
  • Supervising students out of the classroom and being responsible for maintaining the area as assigned.
  • Upholding Kuwait Ministry of Education (MOE) guidelines, including censorship, in accordance with instructions governing the presentation of the taught subject matter.
  • Assisting in upholding and enforcing school rules and administrative regulations inside and outside of the classroom.
  • Participating in pertinent professional learning engagements to upgrade instructional practices and to maintain licensure/certification.
     

Duties towards students:

  • Demonstrating skill in the subject area taught and is growth-oriented.
  • Providing planned instruction to students, to monitor performance daily, and provide corrective feedback throughout the learning process.
  • Updating AIS-sanctioned communication platforms with current need-to-know information about homework, upcoming assessments, and general content that will support achievement of our range of students
  • Developing long and short-range plans for instruction.
  • Showing written evidence of preparation for classes, both long and short-range.
  • Varying instructional techniques and instructional materials to suit learning styles, motivation levels, needs, and capabilities of the students.
  • Exhibiting knowledge and understanding of individual students.
  • Assessing student achievement levels using both formative and summative assessments based on the material covered in class.
  • Developing and implementing a classroom management scheme which emphasizes a tidy and orderly classroom learning environment.
  • Testing and evaluating student’s abilities, record grades, check and register attendance, send Progress Reports to parents, enter grades on report cards and Grade Book as specified by the administration.
  • Consulting with counseling and guidance departments regarding individual student concerns.
  • Keeping accurate and complete written records for all parent conferences, student conferences, behavior incidents and extra student assistance.
  • Receiving and maintaining textbooks, study materials, teaching supplies and classroom equipment.
  • Understanding the importance of pastoral care and advocate for your homeroom students.

 

Public Relations Duties:

  • Maintaining professional relationships with colleagues, students and parents.
  • Safeguarding privileged information about students, faculty members and administration.
  • Maintaining healthy parent-teacher relations by updating the AIS Elementary School-Parent Blog and promptly returning phone calls and emails as well as attending Parent-Teacher conferences.
  • Being available to parents and students during regular school hours and at other reasonable times.
  • Notifying parents in advance of pending failing mark.
  • Cooperating with fellow staff members in the sharing and exchanging of materials.
  • Duties as an Primary Years Programme Teacher at AIS
  • Attending and participating in all faculty professional learning engagements and general assemblies.
  • Continually stay informed through the use of the staff portal, ATLAS, grade level websites, Teacher Grade Book, email, etc.
  • Collaborating with course similar teachers to ensure consistent curriculum and assessments for students regardless of section or teacher.
