PSHE Educator

The PSHE Educator is responsible for providing PSHE education for learners through PSHE classes and by providing PSHE support, guidance, and advice to GHA Educators. The PSHE Educator reports to Principals.

Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate Relationship education for learners in Nursery Schools and Primary Schools by providing professional development and guidance for Educators. The focus is on teaching the fundamental building blocks and characteristics of positive relationships, with particular reference to friendships, family relationships, and relationships with other children and adults.
  • Educate learners in Middle School and High School about Relationships and Sex Education (RSE). RSE aims to give young people the information they need to help them develop healthy, nurturing relationships of all kinds, not just intimate relationships. It should enable them to know what a healthy relationship looks like and what makes a good friend, a good colleague, and a successful marriage or other type of committed relationship. RSE covers contraception, developing intimate relationships resisting pressure to have sex (and not applying pressure), and what is acceptable and unacceptable behavior in relationships.
  • Facilitate physical health and mental well-being education in Nursery Schools and Primary Schools by providing professional development and guidance for Homeroom and Specialist Educators. The focus is on educating learners about the characteristics of good physical health and mental well-being.
  • Educate learners, particularly from age 9 to 11 about puberty and the changing adolescent body, including physical and emotional changes,  menstrual wellbeing, and key facts about the menstrual cycle.
  • Educate learners in Middle School and High School about physical health and mental wellbeing with a focus on enabling learners to make well-informed, positive choices for themselves. Help learners understand how their bodies are changing, how they are feeling, and why.
  • Educate learners in Middle School and High School about the impact of puberty so they can understand the physical and emotional changes and their impact on their wider health and well-being.
  • Educate learners about the steps they can take to protect and support their health and wellbeing, the relationship between good physical health and good mental wellbeing, and that this can influence their ability to learn. Educators should cover self-care, the benefits of physical activity, and time spent outdoors. This should be linked to information on the benefits of sufficient sleep, good nutrition, and strategies for building resilience.
  • Educate Middle School and High School learners about the prevalence and characteristics of serious mental and physical health conditions, drugs, and alcohol and provide information about effective interventions.
  • Educate Middle School and High School learners about finances, how to make good decisions regarding money, budgeting, saving, investing, banking, using credit cards wisely, applying for loans, and acquiring assets.
  • Organize guest speakers to address PSHE topics for learners, parents, and educators.

General Responsibilities:

  • Support, model, and promote the school's mission and vision
  • Remain up to date with relevant pedagogy and current practices
  • Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety, and confidentiality, and report all concerns to the appropriate person
  • Maintain actively involved in a program of professional development to improve practice
  • Create and manage relevant documentation and other administrative requirements
  • Maintain positive and productive relationships with learners, parents, educators, and support staff
  • Attend meetings and participate in events as required 
  • Fulfill other responsibilities as required by the Principals
