Secondary Math Teacher

Math Teacher- Secondary (Grades 6 - 12)

North American International School is searching for a capable and trustworthy secondary math teacher to join our excellent team. The secondary math teacher’s responsibilities include but are not limited to, developing interesting lesson plans and curricula which are based on California State Standards, collaborating with teachers, completing student assessments, and addressing any performance issues. Successful candidates should be able to teach students from varied cultural backgrounds and be able to create lessons that adapt to various levels of learning within the classroom. Successful candidates should enjoy working with middle school and early high school students and have an adaptable/flexible mindset when developing engaging lessons for young learners.  The learners at North American International School require a teacher who has a mindset of curiosity and interest in the greater world around them so that they can share that passion with their students. 

 

Secondary Math Teacher Responsibilities:  

  • Designing, developing, and delivering quality lesson plans and curricula that adhere to national and school guidelines.  
  • Subject area responsibilities include Grade 6 Math, Grade 7 Math, Grade 8 Math, Algebra, and Geometry. 
  • Analyzing MAP Exam data to adapt students’ results to their learning to increase students’ MAP scores.  
  • Creating suitable formative and summative assessments that deliver helpful, timely feedback to students, parents, and other teachers.  
  • Establishing classroom routines and activities, ensuring that all students understand what is expected of them.  
  • Setting up activities, modeling presentations, and designing project-based learning activities.  
  • Providing extra resources, support, and interventions for students who are struggling to achieve benchmark standards. 
  • Managing student performance data and other administrative tasks.
  • Creating an inquiry-based learning environment.  
  • Participating in other school activities and regularly communicating with parents.  
  • Work collaboratively with other grade-level teachers.

General Teacher Qualifications:

  • Fluent English speaker (IELTS 7.5 or higher if not a native English speaker).
  • Degree in Mathematics or a related discipline.  
  • A relevant teaching certificate or license.  
  • A completed apprenticeship or teaching experience with a minimum of two years prior classroom experience in an American curriculum school setting.  
  • Practical experience with MS Office, Google Classroom, and other software.  
  • Dedication, patience, and the ability to remain calm in tense situations.  
  • The ability to answer sensitive questions and create an environment where everyone’s opinions are respected.  
  • A passion for teaching and nourishing young minds. 
  • A commitment to continuing education.
