Secondary School English Teacher

The successful candidate will join the whole school English Department teaching English in the MYP and DP including either IBDP SL/HL Literature, Language & Literature or Language B. There is the possibility of some Language Acquisition teaching, alongside Language and Literature, in the MYP also.

We seek a teacher with the ability to help students come to know the English Language not as an academic study, but as a window into understanding ourselves and our world. We seek to cultivate classrooms in which students learn not only to answer questions, but to question answers, and we need teachers who want to work alongside students toward the shared goal of ever-deeper learning.

As a small school teacher in the English department teach across a range of grades. Candidates should be comfortable with a schedule including multiple courses across multiple grade levels. The ability to offer TOK may also be an advantage.

Additional School Requirements

Essential:

  • BA Degree & teaching certification (to work in a secondary school environment) in English Lang & Literature and experience or willingness to teach English B at the Grade 11-12 (IBDP) level.
  • At least two years’ experience as a ful- time teacher in an international or national school offering programmes similar to NIS
  • Commitment to collaborating with colleagues to make learning connected and meaningful
  • A proven commitment to professional development that has been applied to your classroom practice
  • Ability to provide clear police/background and medical checks
  • A commitment to inclusive education and to serving a diverse array of learners
  • Enjoyment of teaching multiple different courses/preps across a range of Grades from MS to HS
  • A love of being a homeroom/advisory teacher in addition to – and of equal importance to - your subject teacher role

 

Highly Desirable:

  • Experience of IBMYP & IBDP English Lang&Lit, Lit and Language B
  • Masters’ degree or higher in an applicable field
  • Experience as an IB workshop leader or similar
