Social Counselor

Responsibilities:

  • Respect students and treat them in a way that makes them feel secure, develop their personality, give them value, nurture their talents, instill a love of knowledge in them, teach them benevolent behavior, and reinforce their integrity and self-confidence.
  • Design and conduct Student Development Workshops on relevant student-centered topics (i.e. time management, conflict resolution, leadership, team building, and goal setting). Conduct individual and group counseling sessions e.g. study problems, adjustment, resolving, and communication.
  • Oversee student learning support services. This involves handling referrals from teachers; coordinating Student Review Team meetings; recommending and facilitating educational or psychological testing; recommending possible classroom modifications where appropriate, and maintaining communication with students, teachers, and parents throughout any referral process.
  • Help students evaluate their abilities, interest, talents, and personalities to develop realistic academic and career goals. Use interviews, counseling sessions, interest and aptitude assessment tests, and other methods to evaluate and advise students.
  • Maximize each student’s potential through the implementation of a comprehensive program that fosters the competencies leading to lifelong success including personal, and social growth, and academic skills.
  • Assist students with their personal, family, educational, mental health, and personal development in conjunction with teachers, staff, and families., to promote the academic, career, personal, and social development of the student.
  • Provide psychological, social, and guidance support to students and ensure their psychological and social welfare.
  • Assist students with special needs and medical conditions and advocate with supervisors and teachers as needed.
  • Participates in college programs related to student success (i.e. new student orientation, peer tutoring programs, health and wellness activities). 
  • Cultivate students’ skills and support and follow up gifted and talented students by contributing to the setting of individual social and educational care programs.
  • Maintain confidential files on for each applicable student that includes personal information, reports about academic status, reports about the student’s behavior (positive and negative aspects), and reports about communications with parents including meetings.
  • Coordinate with the supervisor to solve student problems including (skipping classes – repetitive absence – failure – leaving classes during a lesson – behavioral issues, etc..).  Supervise students during the morning assembly, break time, between classes, and before and after school hours and take necessary actions against undisciplined ones.
  • Advise the Vice Principal on all matters relating to student affairs and school-wide discipline.
  • Other responsibilities/tasks as assigned by supervisor.
