Social Worker

The primary responsibility of the Student Counselor is to support all students who are experiencing social, emotional, or behavioral problems. He/She provides individual counseling and crisis intervention. He/She also assists students experiencing academic difficulties. The Student Counselor assists the Academic Coordinator with staff orientation and training. He/She will also conduct workshops with students and staff on issues such as stress management and conflict resolution. The Student Counselor maintains high visibility on campus, attending major events, participating in all staff meetings, and meeting daily with students. Interactions with staff and students take place during meals, free-time activities, and scheduled office hours.

Responsible for: Students with Social, Emotional, and/or Behavioral Problems

Responsibilities

  • Provides individual and group counseling and guidance including guiding and counseling students through the development of personal, social, educational, and career plans;
  • Provide individual crisis intervention counseling to referred or self-referred students who are experiencing social, emotional, or behavioral difficulties;
  • Assists students in building self-esteem and developing decision-making, problem-solving, and positive human relations skills.
  • Work in concert with the appropriate Assistant Principal to assist and assess students identified by teachers as experiencing social or behavioral difficulties in the classroom;
  • Consult and collaborate with parents/guardians regarding concerns about students’ emotional and behavioral difficulties, such as social withdrawal or aggressive behavior;
  • Assist the Principal, Assistant Principals, and Academic Coordinator with the design and implementation of orientation programs for academic staff;
  • Meet as needed with the Principal, Assistant Principals, and Academic Coordinator to discuss student problems and to make recommendations for advisement and other action leading to desirable outcomes;
  • Confer with Assistant Principals, Boys and Girls Coordinators, and MS Coordinator at least once a week to discuss student issues;
  • Provide bi-weekly reports by e-mail to the Principal and Assistant Principals;
  • Serve as consultant to the Principal, Assistant Principals, and Academic Coordinator regarding staff and student conflict resolution, communication skills, and team building;
  • Serve as psycho-educational consultant to academic and administrative staff regarding students with behavioral and/or emotional problems;
  • Respond to situations promptly;
  • Consult and coordinate with community social service agencies;
  • Demonstrate professional ethics and leadership; respect confidentiality; exhibit positive human relations skills;
  • Demonstrate proficiency in written and oral communication, as well as exceptional listening skills;
  • Maintain comprehensive records and reports;
  • Operate within the established school procedures and policies;
  • Attend meetings, conferences, and in-service training to keep abreast of best practices and professional trends;
  • Perform other duties assigned by the Principal.

Job Benefits

  • Full-time overseas – hired and locally – hired employees receive a 25% (twenty-five percent) reduction in tuition fee - for up to two dependents for the first year of service and 50% (fifty percent) for each successive year of full-time employment with the school.
