Special Education Teacher

SAPS is seeking a special education (SPED) teacher that can focus on life skills and foundational skills. This SPED teacher will work with children with mild disabilities (cognitive, social, and behavioral). The teacher will modify the general education curriculum to meet individual children's needs through strategic processing skills, Response to Intervention, and individualized instruction where appropriate.

Responsibilities include:

  • Must be comfortable training and supporting teachers in intervention and SPED practices
  • Developing tiered interventions, and enrichment activities according to student needs
  • Collect, document, and analyze data as appropriate to best practices in special education
  • Incorporate cross-curricular objectives into student plans
  • Collaborate with general education teachers to complete interim and report cards with effective feedback
  • Conduct assessments as warranted by the student's needs
  • Develop and maintain a resource room conducive to effective learning within the limits of the resources provided by the school
  • Be available to students and parents for education-related purposes (conferences, RtI/IEP meetings)
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings as well as other professional meetings called by the administrative staff
  • Assist in selecting instructional materials, equipment, and programs as appropriate for students
  • Engage in professional growth opportunities through an on-going program of study, including workshops, seminars, conferences, and/or advanced course work at institutions of higher learning
  • Perform other school duties as assigned by the principal or designated leadership

  • Minimum 3 years of teaching experience at the relevant level
