Speech and Language Therapist
Reports to: Director of Inclusion
Scope of Work
Reporting to the Head of Inclusion, the Speech and Language Therapist will be responsible or providing diagnostic and intervention services for students with speech, language and hearing disorders to help students to adjust and access the general education curriculum. It may involve co-teaching a whole class for language development or supporting children individually but a very important role will be to ensure that all children learn together. He or she will collaboratively develop curriculum, activities and assessments that ensure individual student progress to be the best that they can be.
Responsibilities
- Providing high quality speech and language therapy services to students with needs
- Conducting assessments, analyzing results, and writing reports to determine strengths and concerns in the areas of speech, voice, fluency, pragmatics, language, and oral motor skills
- Developing IEPs and interventions that are strength- based as well as child and family centered for overall educational improvement
- Assisting and guiding teachers in observing, describing, and referring suspected and identified speech and language delays/disorders
- Consulting with teaching teams to develop and implement curriculum modifications and appropriate classroom strategies
- Ensuring students’ skills are generalized across settings by collaborating with teaching teams and related service providers
- Completing treatment notes and progress reports in a timely manner
- Documenting all aspects of work with students
- Communicating and coordinating with Head of Inclusion to ensure school’s inclusive philosophy in practice
- Designing and conducting training for teachers, parents and families
- Attending staff meetings, in- service training, and continuing education courses as appropriate or required
- Attending and participating in school events and contributing productively to the school as a whole
