Student Support Services Coordinator

The Student Support Services Coordinator (SSSCo), with the support of the Principal and Vice Principals, takes responsibility for the day-to-day operation of provisions made by the school for the Student Support Services Department.

They will provide professional guidance on all aspects of student support and counselling services, namely: Special Educational Needs & Disabilities (SEND),  targeted intervention for those students in need of support with English, Russian, or Kazakh, and provide counseling services to our students and where needed staff members and parents. To secure high-quality teaching and the effective use of resources to bring about improved standards of achievement for all pupils.

The key task of the SSSCo is to ensure that our Students Support Services provision is both efficiently and effectively managed. The range of responsibilities delegated to the SSSCo regarding provision and coordination is outlined below.  Working with the Principal and Vice Principals, the SSSCo has the following responsibilities.

  • Ensure effective systems of communication, including feedback about pupils’ learning to inform future planning.
  • Monitoring the quality of Student Support Services by establishing effective systems, and intervention strategies and where necessary identifying and meeting the needs of pupils, whilst ensuring that the systems are coordinated, evaluated, and regularly reviewed.
  • Ensure that the objectives of the Student Support Services Department are reflected in the school improvement plan. Liaise with and coordinate the contribution of external agencies.
  • Keep up-to-date with knowledge of Students Support Services issues that may impact upon policy and practice.
  • Work with pupils, vice principals, coordinators, well-being officers, teachers and parents to ensure realistic expectations of behavior and achievement are set for SSS pupils.
  • Support developments and initiatives to improve standards in English, Russian & Kazakh as well as access to the wider curriculum.
  • Overseeing and monitoring the quality of IEPs and other support plans such as pastoral and counselling support plans and maintaining detailed information for subsequent meetings with parents, teachers, and coordinators.
  • Develop systems for colleagues to monitor and record progress made by pupils with SEND towards the achievement of targets set in IEPs and support plans.
  • Review IEPs and support plans termly with parents, students, and teachers and agree and communicate new targets.
  • To guide the SSS Department and to be instrumental in planning for continual improvement and to make a contribution to the evaluation of the work of the department.
  • To promote an atmosphere of continuing professional development and to share good practices with colleagues.
  • To create, develop, monitor, and deliver a yearly action plan for SSS provision for the school.
  • Develop proformas for essential repetitive paperwork, in order to create an administrative infrastructure as part of an effective communications system.
  • Disseminate procedural information.
  • Provide regular information to the Principal and Vice Principals on the evaluation of the effectiveness of provision for pupils regarding  SSS, to inform decision-making and policy review.

​​​​​​​Qualifications:

  • Have or be willing to undertake the accredited SENCO qualification.
  • Qualification for the assessing and teaching of pupils with specific learning difficulties.
  • Native-level English Speaker
  • At least five years of full-time classroom teaching experience within a UK school or an international school that offers the English National Curriculum or similar program.
  • Qualified Teacher Status and/or PGCE or Teacher Certification from home country.
  • Experience in teaching the English National Curriculum or Cambridge International Programmes.
  • Overseas teaching experience is desirable but not essential.
