Substitute Teacher - Topeka Public Schools

Must hold a current Kansas Certified Teacher License,OR Standard Substitute License OR Emergency Substitute Teacher LicenseApplicants must meet the Kansas State Department of Education certification requirements. Proper English usage, grammar, vocabulary, spelling and punctuation, and basic math; methodologies, techniques and practices used to address the educational and emotional needs of regular program and special education students. Must be able to follow oral and written directions and have the ability to establish effective working relationship with staff and students. Ability to maintain effective classroom management strategies.

  • Ability to implement lesson plans left by the classroom teacher, while ensuring the integrity of academic time and in a manner which motivates students to learn and participate.
  • Ability to create and maintain a climate of respect and fairness for all students; ability to demonstrate fair and ethical judgment.
  • Maintains a discipline and classroom control that fosters a safe and positive environment for all students and staff in accordance with school and district policies. Ability to apply appropriate consequences for inappropriate student’s behavior; ability to display problem solving, cooperative negotiating skills and conflict resolution strategies.
  • Maintains and respects confidentiality of students, school personnel and parent information.
  • Ensures the adequate supervision to assure health, welfare, and safety of all students.
  • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, material, and facilities.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by building administrator(s) in accordance with school/district policies and/or practices.
