Vice Principal

Key areas of responsibility

Responsible for meeting the following professional responsibilities. These responsibilities should be read within the context of modeling the Statement of Principles of Leadership and Management below.

Strategic Leadership:

Develop, lead and manage the School’s strategic vision, goals and objectives for its continuing development and sustainability.

  • Lead and manage the development of the Strategic Plan for the School in consultation with the Board.
  • Implement, monitor and evaluate the Strategic Plan.
  • Keep the Board informed of educational, social, economic and technological trends that have implications for the current and future needs of School students and staff.
  • Provide recommendations to the Board for enhancing growth opportunities and educational performance.
  • Lead and manage the continuing growth and development of the School facilities and enrollments, the realization of the educational philosophy and aims, and achievement of the School’s strategic direction.
  • Promote and nurture an innovative and creative mindset and culture.

 

Educational Leadership:

Provide strong and visible educational and curriculum leadership of the School, sustaining a teaching and learning environment that has high expectations for academic achievement reflecting best practice through the provision of excellent and comprehensive education for all students.

  • Lead and manage the development, implementation, evaluation and continuous improvement of the School’s academic focus.
  • Develop, implement and review academic standards that meet and attempt to exceed international best practice.
  • Lead and support School staff in curriculum development and evaluation and the achievement of excellent learning outcomes.  
  • Inspire innovative and creative solutions and directions in addressing emerging educational change. 
  • Manage the development and implementation of leading educational programs, initiatives and approaches.
  • Sustain a holistic approach to education with the provision of broad-based extra-curricular programs.

 

Student Enrollment and Welfare:

Ensure all students are provided a safe, nurturing and encouraging environment to achieve their individual holistic learning potential.

  • Oversee the development, implementation and review of Pastoral Care programs for students especially but not only in relation to Boarding.
  • Oversee the implementation of policies and programs for student welfare and safety. 
  • Oversee the enrollment processes for local and international students including enrollment discipline and termination of enrollment.
  • Be accountable for the final decision as to student enrollment, discipline and exclusion.
  • Be the public face of the School by way of leading School assemblies and other significant functions.

 

Leadership and Management:

  • Provide effective and efficient processes which attract, maintain and develop highly competent staff.
  • Ensure a staff profile with the appropriate and necessary skill mix to achieve the School’s goals and objectives.
  • Provide a safe, nurturing and encouraging workplace especially in relation to innovation, open mindset and entrepreneurship.
  • Lead and manage School staff in the achievement of the educational philosophy and strategic vision and goals.
  • Keep abreast of curriculum and pastoral care trends in the wider educational community.
  • Lead and manage the staff Performance Appraisal and Development programs.
  • Manage staff competence, discipline and separation issues.
  • Encourage staff to enhance their professional skills.
  • Maintain confidentiality as appropriate through leadership of the School.
  • Manage with Human Resources and Compliance, processes for staff selection, on boarding and mentoring.

 

Risk Management:

To the extent possible, ensure that the School is not unreasonably exposed to risks which could significantly impact on its ongoing operation.

  • Ensure the School fulfills ‘Duty of Care’ requirements for staff, students and campus visitors, including management of School risks.
  • Ensure the establishment of a Risk Management framework and oversee implementation practices.
  • Lead and model compliance with relevant internationally recognized Boarding standards.
  • As required contribute to the review and update of School Policies and Procedures to ensure the values and educational vision are aligned.

 

Community and Stakeholder Engagement:

Ensure that the School has a community reputation for strong partnerships relevant to innovation and high quality teaching and learning in a safe, supportive and nurturing environment.

  • Foster quality relationships with members of the School and wider community (parents, students, sponsoring organisations and regulatory bodies).
  • Initiate strong partnerships, including but not limited to Tertiary Institutions and Businesses, to further facilitate innovation and entrepreneurship 
  • Proactively and effectively manage the School’s relationships with parents and other stakeholders.
  • Contribute to School activities and parent groups.
  • Support and facilitate a strong student Alumni. 

 

Organisational and Commercial Management:

Ensure that the School’s ongoing commercial operation occurs in an effective, efficient and sustainable manner to achieve agreed goals and objectives.

  • With the Finance function, develop and manage the approved School budget.
  • With the Finance function, manage the day to day financial operation of the School.
  • Follow up debtors in a professional, tactful and appropriate manner in consultation with Finance.
  • Lead and enhance the enrollment process.
  • Lead and model a ‘customer-focused’ approach for building student retention and parent involvement/commitment to the School.
  • Maintain membership and participation in professional associations to promote the School.

 

Facilities and Resource Management:

Ensure that the School has the appropriate and adequate facilities and resources to meet its strategic objectives for continuing growth and development. 

  • Contribute to the development, implementation and review of any School Built Environment Plans.
  • With the Finance function, develop approaches and submissions to possible sources of funding.
  • With the Finance function, manage building projects and acquisition of capital equipment/facilities.
  • With the Finance function, develop, implement and manage the School’s IT and Innovation Strategy.

  • Demonstrated experience in management of educational statutory and regulatory compliance
  • Demonstrated success in marketing schools
